XII stag

Post by Strider77 »

I was wondering if any of you played this or not... I was thinking about picking it up. I'm not expecting a amazing shooter, but I'd like to know what to expect looks wise and play.

This ancestor of Trizeal has a very retro feel, and a forgiving freeform implementation of enemy chaining that I find very enjoyable. It also spawns harder enemies & bosses once your play reaches a certain skill level, which also adds to a high replayability. There is a gimmicky 'stick-waggling' mechanic that requires a proper arcade stick to manually utilize, although it can be mapped to an auto button on a pad.

Not a bad purchase if you can get it cheap, but not much more than that.

It isn't anything groundbreaking, in terms of graphics, but the gameplay is INCREDIBLY addicting! It's the combo system-your ship wiggles and attacks enmies that way, and unlike the arcade port, the PS2 port features an auto-wiggle function. Plus, you can also rack up combos by frying enemy ships with your engines, which is always fun!

This game is a dirt-cheap and very underrated PS2 shmup; definately pick it up! :D

If you're using a controller and plan to play it right, I guarantee that you'll break the d-pad.

i totally love XII-stag! like mentioned before: the graphics are very retro but a lot of love & dedication has been put in there by the developers. the colour pallets they've used sometimes make the game harder than it needs to be and/or a bit painful on the eyes but i think it's quite pretty. the tate-mode is a little bit hidden away in the engrish and aweful looking menu but it does have it.i really like the way it plays and the combo system is quite addicting. the difficulty isn't too high. to play it without rapidfire while using the combo-system you're going to need an arcade stick or perhaps something like a madcatz microcon or any controler with a small yet good, defined d-pad.

quite frankly i don't understand why people hate this game so much. it's not the best shmup ever but it's quite decent at least.
