There's a decent list on PAL PS2 shmups here.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Just a word of warning; Shadow of Ganymede, Guerilla Strike & Search and Destroy all look tempting with their cheap price but they're not even worth the paper the cover's printed on. Terrible control, long levels comprised with little going on, no bosses and more.

I think in search and destroy when you move towards the screen and let go of the controller the game actually pulls the ship back to the bottom of the screen. I might have been messing with the analogue stick when the game booted up which may have caused this but I haven't been game to boot it up again. I also noticed when I powered up the first time it turned into a spread shot and I couldn't kill a certain enemy because the middle shot was weaker and the two shots going diagonally went too wide to make contact. DODGY!

Homura, Dragon Blaze, Samurai Aces etc though are totally worth it. That thread is a good point of refference.
