Hey, Dave! No horzi's?
To push it up a notch; how about employing a splitter to capture both "hand held" footage and a direct in-game feed...Zooming into the Hi-Score etc...and fading into/out of the fed video...then you could edit and create this fuckin' coolass "produced" replay vid! There should be a separate contest for BEST REPLAY MOVIE! Ah, now I wanna do it! BTW the deadline for this should be October...Like Kiken said, I'd be inclined to trust a vidcam registration much more than a mame replay. It's not that difficult to set a camera behind you and press "rec" at start. This way, competition could be open to the hundreds of shmups that aren't on MAME, ie console / home computer stuff.

I left the last 10 person open as a wildcard as I can't think of another good all rounder or specific to these games. I'd probably put Rastan78 or Cigsthecat for the strong raizing skill, or IlMrm or Ex_Mosquito for strong Psikyo skill.

I'm thinking we should have a proper stickied thread to cast votes, to finalise the members of Team SSF (thats 'Shmups Shooter Forum' ^_-) and our shortlist of games for the competition. If our companions at Arcade Extreme (Team Italy) are indeed serious about getting this going, then we should try and get everything organised correctly.
We should also make sure that the selected members are available to play.
GEMANT, if you read this, perhaps move the start and finish dates a little further ahead to give us time to get everything ready?

Well if you guys play on Mame I'd like to join shmups.com team. :p
I know that I am no AAA player, but I am also not that bad and could pull off an average score in any game and quiet nice results in liked games as DDP or Giga Wing. I would love to dedicate myself to a competition. So if you look for a tenth player, let me know. If you get 10 AAA players you can leave me out, but otherwise I'd be an reasonable choice.
That about my self advertisement... :p
But the compo sounds like serious fun.
Edit:
Another suggestion from me (who wasn't already mentioned) would be Landshark. He was a pretty ambitious player in Ramus shmeets and has very good highscores in certain games. And he also plays on emulator.

Thanks!howmuchkeefe wrote:I'd have to agree with the choices, and I suggest also adding twe and Shalashaska to the list of nominees.
Or we could always have a Mushihime-sama Maniac Mode rapid fire score contest with our Italian friends. I'd be happy to compete in that.

have you actually done this with WolfMAME and not regular MAME?bloodflowers wrote:Actually, there is still a way to cheat past this and use save states, but I'll let people work out how for themselves.Gemant wrote:save state during recording is not possible in wolfmame. If you use it, replay desync and appear game over after some seconds.
CPU speed/type is logged by WolfMAME. While you could still technically have one person play on 5 different computers, it's very unlikely and I'm sure someone would notice the similarities in gameplay.freddiebamboo wrote:I agree with the recording of replays, but there is no proof of who actually made the replay.
Technically you could get 2 awesome players to crank out 5 replays each using different initials at the end
This sounds like it's just for fun, so stop being such Negative Nancy's, guys.

Choice of games
Has anybody yet mentioned the fact that 'Choice of games' will land the Competition into certain player's laps.
For example:- *Choose Dangun Feveron and Venom will Destroy the Western World!
*Choose Under Defeat and BBH will Eat everyone up!
*Choose Ketsui and Cowboy-RJJ & MrMonkeyMan won't be touched!
etc.
So, choice of game is the overriding factor.
Back in the 80s, a UK magazine covered a competition that was held on a new shooter that no-one could have played before. The new game was Gyruss and the winner was Julian Rignall (but that's not the important bit).
The idea was of course to compete on a level playing field.
So choosing specialist titles that someone will Dominate due to countless hours experience, is not a wise idea.
& Don't choose Batsugun Special!!
Ps. I don't have MAME at all. I play boards mostly and a bit of console & MVS One Slot. A photo is probably the best from me. I might be able to get someone to stand behind with a camcorder, but that still poses transfer problems.

This competition exudes dramah from all of its pores. Since people have mentioned me, though, let it be known that i'm rather busy and playing Under Defeat and Radirgy. I'll wait for details, though...let's see how childish and chauvinist this can become, knowing my fellow countrymen.

Two things need to go down.
1. Make thread for people to vote on the team members.
2. Potential team members need to confirm that they can play.
You could decide on the games first and choose players based off that, but I think that will take too long. Let the team members choose the games.

I agree that we should choose who participates before deciding on games. There's no point in non-participants choosing what games to play.
Should we have a thread where people volunteer and then everyone votes who goes? Nominating people doesn't seem to be working as most of the best players so far are already busy with other games.
