Generally I like to ponder about unlikely or non-forth coming events. Most of the time it’s about video games, whether they get new releases, special additions, revisions, et cetera. Lately I’ve been playing Raiden Fighters and realizing I still quite like that franchise. I also think about the canned Xbox port that was planned a little while ago about what could have been. I think it would be something really special if Moss/Seibu or whomever still owns the rights to the previous games to release some sort of compliation series. Raiden Revival is what I came up with and here is what ideally I’d like to see:
Raiden Revival: Origin
-Raiden
-Raiden II
-Raiden DX
(Bonus unlockable Raiden II New)
Perhaps the latter is not as tangible on PS2 or a single DVD, but we can always dream. I think to combine such a set of previously unported games on disc would be fantastic. I’d also like to address Moss/Seibu/Taito with such an idea even if consideration is less than noticeable. It’s worth a shot.
^^^Agreed. My copy of Raiden DX is more than enough for me as far as the classic Raiden series is concerned. That being said I would be all over the evolution disc in a heartbeat.

Quite possibly, then again I wasn't going on a math derivative. Considering the miniscule(sp?) amount taken up by the Playstation ports of the earlier games it makes me wonder why the Raiden Fighters Evolution Xbox game was one game on a DVD?
Anyway, perhaps it is worth noting that the 'Origin' disc might come as a 2nd disc in a limited release of some sort. Otherwise I can see how most people who would be interested in this might very well own all the games, say for R2New, and would not partake in a rehash.
One reason I can see for this not happening is the porting of 4 games in one set. It could be a lot of work, however they all seem to reside on similar architecture so it might not be too bad after all. Maybe it's just out of lack of interest or having not brought interest forward.

Unless time is better spent porting the RF/VP games then I too wouldn't mind, perhaps as a bonus.
The stand-alone disc might want to be rather cheap at release like a greatest hit, otherwise including it in some Limited release pack might seem more fitting since less work is required.
Either way I'm sure plently of people around here might be interested in the RRE disc. It's just a matter of and if and or when it might go down.
Regarding the canned New World System port of RF, someone should scoop up what work they had already completed and make a release of the said Evolution on 360...it could happen...right...
I love the Evolution idea! Just wish the Xbox port would have became a reality...I know I'm nuts, but I would have purchased a JP Xbox just to play that disc!

I would've too, and so would plenty of others on here.
At any rate, I really think that the RF series should take precedence. The Raiden Project isn't cheap, but it's not on par with, say, ZanacXZanac or Radiant Silvergun. If it was, then I would call for a re-release. But none of the RF games has ever seen a home port, and that's just flat out ridiculous. If Seibu can take the time and money to come out with Radien III and IV, then they sure as heck can start working on porting some of the RF games.

I believe that this Seibu isn't the same as the Seibu of old. Therefore, RF ports may be very unlikely.

What do you mean? Who owns the rights to these games? Is Seibu even independent anymore, or are they part of Moss? Because, as I've written on here before, Seibu does not have a working website.

Wonder where the rest went.
No original programmers equals completely different kind of Raiden. I said in that thread that this Seibu/Moss doesn't remember its roots and what made Raiden great, and if their lack of original team members is anything to go by, that also applies to Seibu/Moss not bothering to look at the back catalogue vis-a-vis ports.
And if they do get updated in the arcades, there's the slim chance it'll get mangled.
I'm not very optimistic about Seibu/Moss at the moment.
I'd love to see something like this, but since I've got Raiden 1, Raiden DX and RF1 and 2 on PCBs now, I don't think I'm in too much of a hurry for this (although I am still trying to find a VP1 cart to go with them.)

Me too and we are not nuts, because if the port would've been reasonable it would've automatically be the best shmup on any system. And if they would've put all three in then it would've been a MUST buy for all shmembers.
Come 2006, I did never get that xbox
I too feel exactly the same. From the moment I heard about it coming out to the point where I heard NWS went bankrupt any hopes I was going to get an Xbox for that game were nearly dashed.
Now I only think of getting one to play Raiden Fighters a la Mame, among others.
Do you know how much a Seibu Kaihatsu SP1 cartridge of Viper Phase 1/Viper Phase 1 U.S.A/Viper Phase 1 New Version costs these days?
I didn't realize that it is still a highly desirable SP1 shmup cart...hmmm, wonder what it would fetch on the likes of the Trading Zone here on the Shmups.org. site or eBay these days?
And which Viper Phase 1 cart are you looking for anyways (country region and which version: original JPN Bios 'old' version, the USA Bios version or the revised JPN Bios 'new' version)?
I'm not sure what VP1 goes for these days, I haven't seen one come up around here in a while (a search on the Trading Station doesn't show much either.) I'd be looking for a US version, preferably cart only (since I already have two US SPI boards) and a marquee would be nice as well (come to think of it, I'm still looking for a Raiden Fighters marquee too.)

So what happened to the rest of Seibu's staff? Did they go off and form their own company?
