Wondering if anyone bought anything from gamequestdirect before and how are they, im tempted to purchase a brand new raycrisis and thunder force 5 from them for the psx. Seems like good deals.
hehe i got it from play-asia for 14 bucks a while back, im only looking for psx games for the time being, and i see silhouette mirage made by treasures, is that any good? i know these games from gamequestdirect are reprints but does it look exactly like the original?
I dunno what I'd be missing from the non-US Silhouette Mirage, but for what the US one does, I really like it. Hell, the game is practically Ikaruga on foot anyway.
If you've never done or seen the Ikaruga thing though...um....I dunno what to tell ya... I've run out of analogies.
To sound like a boring movie critic:
The story and the world SM throws at you are pretty good and capture the imagination fairly nicely. Yeah, that's if you can follow any of it. But no worry, there's 5 ways to beat it and a lot of challenge to match. It's all just weiiird; but the fun kind. Pick it up if you're not gonna go into chapter 13 bankruptcy doing it...and you can stand the appearance of goofy anime-ish characters....and one of the lamest-looking protagonists of allllll tiiiime.
One more tip, don't watch the intro movie before you actually play it. Just don't do it.
i have ikaruga, anyone know where i can get videos of silhouette mirage for the playstation, what are the differences between the us rev and etc. Sounds like a fun game, if u can see some video i might throw that in the cart as well. thanks
I don't know about videos, but I wholeheartedly recommend Silhouette Mirage. It's incredibly fun (& very different). I think the whole "Ikaruga on the ground" analogy is good, though there's more to it than that. You can take damage from enemies of either color scheme & there's a lot of interactivity w/ enemies. I bought it used for $15 & I'd say it was a steal, because it's one of the best, most fun PSX games I own (non-shmup, anyway).
There are controversial changes made to the graphics and gameplay in the domestic release of Silhouette Mirage, localized by working designs. I'd suggest reading this before you decide:
The gamespot review of Silhouette Mirage has the differences. To memory, prices were increased, difficulty was increased, and the voice acting was painful.
Jesus god, the voices on this version are more annoying. Just don't mash the defense button like this guy does and you'll keep yer sanity.
There's rapid fire weapons on there too. He's just not using them. Frankly, the weapon choices in the movies don't do the game enough justice. Anyway, Silhouette = Blue, Mirage = Red.
Do note that the PS version is not harder than the SS version. Both versions are pretty easy, and the PS version perhaps even moreso with the much higher probability of powerups you get from enemies and cheaper lv. 6 Sloth (which no review mentions), which is really the best weapon in the game and encountered very early. In addition, it seems no English reviewer has picked up on the fact that there's an easy way to get infinite gold towards the beginning of the game with little risk.
And contrary to the belief of that review WarpZone linked, it's pretty much impossible that WD wasn't aware of the biblical allusions immediately obvious in the story. The much more likely causes for the translation workaround names were to keep the title an E game from the ESRB or to appeal to a broader audience.
Regardless, Silhouette Mirage is a brilliant game with very well designed bosses. Every boss except a PS version boss can be beaten without a sweat by capitalizing on pattern weaknesses. The player in those Youtube videos was alright (good in some parts, inconsistent in others), but you hardcore 2D fans ought to have no problem with the game.
As the SFKosmo review states, the Import versus Domestic case showcases two different games. So it's really your taste in the matter.
Personally, I prefer the original import style over the reworked WD release and furthermore, the Saturn release over the Playstation graphical removals. The import plays as states, more fluidly and fast paced. Not that the SS version is the be all end all, it is more expensive and requires a Saturn. But the PS import should be more than adequet.
hehe i already purchased all 3 ktg, earlier today. Gonna be some cool games coming in . and thanks for the youtube videos, looks fun!! reminds me of some kind of bangaioh vibe
ok so i got all 3 copies yesterday, all came in perfectly, and i love silhouette mirage and its music, its so catchy, the game plays like your typical platformer with some cool tricks up its sleeves and fun level design, id say silhouette mirage is worth the purchase since its only 17 bucks brand new . as for thunder force v and raycrisis their the same as ive already played them but since they stock them brand new for pretty cheap, whoever didnt get it yet should get them
