Need Help with some WinRAR files....

Post by dave4shmups »

Zach Keene is sending me that Gradius III Superplay video (the one that was on Jigsawman's FTP site a while back) in 6 different .rar files. Yet, so far, WinRAR won't allow me to extract any of them! It keeps telling me I need "volume", and I have no idea what to do.

Zach says that it might work once I have all 6 pieces of this file, but he says there should be a "Keep Broken" option to let me unzip the parts that I have.

I have not, however, seen any "Keep Broken" option. And BTW, I AM using the latest version of WinRAR-3.42.

Any advice at this point would certainly be appreciated!-Dave

From what I can gather it should be the very bottom checkbox on the window that pops up when you press the "Extract to" button (like the screenshot at the very bottom of this page.

When you click on "Extract", the last box is "display files in explorer, and the second to last one says "keep broken files". I've tried clicking both of those, and it still cuts me off almost half-way through, telling me "Next Volume is Required." :?

Does it leave a "Gradius III.MPG" file somewhere despite the error? It's going to complain about missing parts no matter what until you have them all, but the "Keep Broken Files" option is supposed to make it leave behind whatever it could extract.

But that's the point, it can't extract more then about half of the files, and I don't know where it would leave the other half behind anyway.

Oh well, let's wait until I get all 6 and just go from there.

You are supposed to wait until you have all the parts before putting it together. It's not like you can have only half the compressed folders to get half of the movie. It's all or nothing.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

Actually, that's exactly what the "Keep Broken Files" option lets you do.

Ok, so how do I put them all together once I have them all?

Once you get all the parts WinRAR will put them all together for you. Just highlight the first part and click "Extract" and WinRAR should do the rest.
