I haven't heard of this series before. I found some (worryingly unenthusiastic) reviews for Rainbow Cotton, but Google isn't giving me much for any of the older games. Does anyone know of any sites with reviews, screenshots or vids for the earlier games in the series?

The CDs and boxes are kept in a totally maniacal perfect state O_O I haven't got such perfect cases and SNES boxes - many kudos for you.
I just have 100% cotton (SNES), and I've played most of the others. As much as I like cute-em-up, I've never really digested the Cotton series. Too chunky for my likings, stiffy gameplay, and the chara isn't really that good.

Ergh. But wonderful collection anyway.
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

Ditto. Cotton 100% is the only one I have atm, along with the portable version; the rest have come and gone without impressing me much. Nice collection, though.

It's strange to me that more people aren't fond of the series. I've always loved Fantasy Zone and similar colorful shooters so Cotton has always made a mark on me. I don't know what it is about the series but ever since I bought the NGPC one I knew I had to collect them all. Along with Sonic it is easily my favorite video game series of all time. The crystal collecting is very original for a shooter and I have not seen it replicated in another game. I've been playing the original PCB a lot now and I love it to death...it's also hard as hell! I can't make it past stage 4

Oddly enough, Boomerang and Cotton 2 are my least favorite in the series. 100% is one of my favorites due to the fantastic graphics and spin offs of the original but of course nothing will ever beat Panorama.

and good news---I replaced the battery on the original suicide PCB! It's actually not hard at all, you jus thave to use an x-acto knife to lift the cover off (it's glued on). I replaced the same batt on my Moonwalker board that game in today too :)

I don't see how Boomerang could be your least favorite if you've put some time in it.

I've put a lot of time into it. Cotton 2 is my least favorite, followed by Boomerang. People just have different tastes.

As a fan of Boomerang (and 2, to a lesser extent) I can understand that...command motions in a shmup certainly aren't for everyone (though, as I mentioned, on the Saturn you can get around it somewhat). Not to mention that the later games don't have nearly as much of an "old-school" flavor as the earlier ones do (it sort of goes without saying, but it's a particularly big jump in the Cotton games), so if you prefer simpler shooting the later games (especially 2, wherein your main shot is very weak) aren't going to butter your muffin. Or perhaps the nagging problems in the games (and they are there) are just particularly irritating to some moreso than others, I can live with that. Still doesn't change my own love for Boomerang, though. ;)

I cant believe you have Cotton 100% for PSX. This port of the SNES original is uber hard to find. Where did you find this title?

I have a copy too, so it is out there...every once in awhile it'll pop up on eBay, though IIRC I bought my copy from a member here, I forget whom exactly.

This game isn't rare at all (as far as Cotton's are concerned). Try tracking down a mint/complete Turbo CD version or the original PCB ;) Cotton Original first print for the PSX is much more rare- the superlite 1500 Cotton 100% is much easier to come by.

Is Panorama that one for MD that looks and plays like the most ghettoest ripoff of Space Harrier imaginable? And costs $200?

Yeah.

Actually, I think it's way better than Space Harrier though. At least the Megadrive version of SH.

This probably isn't the best place for you to bash Cotton games. This is more of a Cotton fan thread. but FYI the game is around $130 and if you've put good time into it you'd see that it beats the crap out of any Space Harrier, which I love BTW.

rainbow cotton sucks big time, mainly due to it lacking in any kind of shmupping fun, the controls are awkward, the bullets hard to avoid, and no power ups etc, at least that i came across. it looks beutiful though, and could have been a great space harrier update, if done properly. the bosses are quite interesting, too.

Just one the final rarity left for my Cotton collection! :D

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1

Now all that's missing is Pachinko Cotton and the STV carts which are relatively easy to come by. But this game (the X68 one) is rare as hell! Been searching for it for years...

Does anybody know how to activate the alternate path of the cave level in Cotton Original? By Cave level I mean pretty much the last level consisting of lava and the dragon boss. I remember playing the TG16 version back in the day and finding a alternate path that goes further down on this level but dont know how I activated it. I just played through Cotton Original on the PSX and didnt do it.

Well I like the sidescrollers a whole lot. I put a few hours into Panorama four or five years ago and disliked it just like I've always disliked Space Harrier. No big whoop.

Oooh, X68000 version. Very nice! Let me know if there is any cool original art in the instruction manual.

And on the note of requests, please tell me what that OST sounds like when you get it. If it has original remixes, I don't suppose I could get you to rip some or all of it, could I?
