Which character (or characters) were left out of MLF 1?....

Post by dave4shmups »

I'd like to get this for my PSTwo, once I buy the latter next week.

In any case, which characters were left out of Mobile Light Force 1?

I don't think any characters were left out, though some were badly renamed...and the story was completely scrapped.

One character was either renamed to MLF 2000 or MILF 2000. It's hard to tell becuase it's listed as "MLF 2000" in the manual and "MILF 2000" in the game. Talk about inconsistant. The good news is that Marion's name was left untouched, if I remember correctly.

Better off playing on mame. The game is broken.

That's your opinion. I find the game to be quite playable in wobble mode. BTW, playing on mame is illegal and the PSX game can be bought for peanuts. Also, the superior (to the PSX version) Saturn version is cheap too. BTW, I know you were trying to be helpful, but wouldn't it be more helpful to tell someone why you think the game is broken instead of just telling them that it's broken?

Isn't M.I.L.F related to some porn site anyway?

MILF stands for a "Mother I'd Like to Fuck." I'm sure it's used in innumerable internet porn sites.

Dave, just get an asian ps2. Nothing good in the states hasn't come out there and you get access to more shooters.

Umm. Isn't this a bit off the subject? Also, it's not like Mobile Light Force is some super expensive game. What's wrong with getting Mobile Light Force now and another version of Gunbird later? The gameplay is intact, though the screen mode chosen isn't the best. I got Mobile Light Force for about 3 or 4 dollars used. It's a great game for the price.

What's your point? I'm talking about US prices. Places in the US still sell the game for as cheap as 3 or 4 dollars used. However, I do agree that $18 CDN is a bit much for the game. Canadian game prices suck. :(

Err, I heard that the PS version was better. It was either cleaner visuals or less slowdown, can't remember which. Can anybody confirm?

I can't stand wobble mode. It makes the game much less playable IMHO. One of these days I'm going to get a better version of the game. I guess it's a matter of personal preference, and MLF 1 is really cheap. I'd save your money and get a better version, though.

Ahh, OK, I can agree with that. I wasn't aware that the JP PS version had this deficiency also.

Nope. I have the Japanese PSOne version and it only has one screen format: Original Mode 2 (aka "Wobble Mode"... or as I like to call it, "Pan'n'Scan").

The Saturn version has 2 screen formats: Original Mode 2 and Arcade (read: Tate).

In this regard I would say that the PS2 version (included in the Gunbird Collection) is the best homeport. It includes 3 screen formats: Normal (a MAME-esque slim screen that recreates the proper 3/4 aspect ration without clipping any of the play-area), Stretched (much like the option in the Twinbee Yahou Deluxe Pack... it simply takes Normal and stretches the image along the X axis until it fills the screen) and Arcade (Tate).

IIRC, doesn't the Saturn version also include an art gallery? Or does the JPS1 version have that too?

From what I heard, the JPS1 version has the art gallery too. I heard that the extras on the PSX version have just been sealed off in Mobile Light Force and may be accessable with Game Shark.

Both the Saturn and PSX versions have the art gallery.

And in reference to XS not removing it from the MLF, just removing the ability to select it... can we also assume that Strikers 1945 (aka Strikers 1945 II) simply had to Tate selector removed, and not the actual mode... meaning that one could use a GameShark code to access the Tate option screen and thus play in Tate mode?

I know that Strikers 1945 was released through A-1 Games, but I think they simply did the same thing as XS.
