I would love to see a superplay of this game. I don't think there is one is there?

The "max initial rank" feature of batrider really puss me off the game,a si tjust kicks my ass hard. gareggas minimal initial rank fefault lets me get a LOT farther in the game.

As a MAME player i find that bakraid is my favorit of the three. A rank system tha doesn't punish you for trying to one life clear the thing is a definite plus in my book.

Mainly, the game lets you play it your way, as opposed to Garegga, which you must play the RIGHT eway to get anywhere on past a certain point.

You can play for survival, you can go for medals, or you can do the bomb chaining and milking bit for high score. There is no wrong way to play bakraid.

I think Cigs said awhile back that if you let it run for awhile the rank settles down. i didn't realize it started at max rank either and managed to 1cc normal mode too. I'd probably score better if i went back and tried it again at a lower rank.
Feedback will set you free.

There isn't anything available showing scores beyond 10 million.

http://www.mog-rep.net/ has a 9+ million Strawman ALL for Advance Course, and some 18 boss Special ALLs. (MAME inps though)

I have nothing against tactical suicide as an optional scoring tactic, not rquiired to beat the game.

Yes there is a "right" way to score. But you are free to ignore it in your quest to beat the game. Which I've happily been doing.

Thanks. I have no idea what MAME inps is though. Some way of playing videos through MAME?

I just really want to see videos of people beating the bosses.

Yeah, it just plays a replay through mame. You need the correct mame version to play the inp file though (I think - not too hot at mame workings) which can be hard to get hold of.

Someone here must have it captured to a proper video file I'd say.

1CC Advance Course Replay at mog-rep.net

Post by DEL »

@Dave_K - I got elbarto on the case and he says he did have that MamePlus and was able to play it. He's currently trying to put it on DVD for me.

I will of course forward a copy to stratos if he still wants it.

Excellent news DEL! Can elbarto also post the mame plus zipfile somewhere (just the zip file not the rom or inp replay...those can be easily downloaded already).

I don't have that exact MAME+, but the 10M Strawman advance replay works on the earliest version I do have, 0.78u1. That is, it works on this PC, but for some reason it doesn't want to know on DELs. :(

Seems that Cigs might be able to help out though :)

Ok, I must have been thinking of a different replay on the MOG stie. I just downloaded the 10M stawman all replay, and it works using Mame32plus 0.79u1 found here: http://replay.ga-la.com/view.asp?id=1629

Alright, how the shit do you play these replays...
I have the emulator, I have the replay INP file and the command line, yet I see no Hi.hi or Hi folders and plus there is little info I've found to how to set this up properly.

unpack replay zip file and put the .inp in the "inp" folder, put the batrider.zip in the "roms" folder, type on the command line "mamep -playback batrider-strowmap-ALL -nohws".

You can try without the -nohws at the end, but it will look a bit fuzzy.

Alright, well that's the first time I heard I needed to make an INP folder.
I appreciate it Dave, now I can watch some good replays of this game apart from my own, haha.

Nay, unless you get it for under $100. When it comes to spending a lot of money on shmup PCBs I'd say go for the Cave stuff first. Esp Ra.De., Dangun Feveron, Guwange, Espgaluda I and II, DoDonpachi's and Mushi are all much better IMO. Not to say it's a bad game at all, I just don't think it's worth the $100+ pricetag.

Exactly. Wait till you get to the main screen (passing the boot sequence), then press F10 and let the game run to the attract sequence -I don`t know exactly how long you have to wait for the rank to reach the minimum, I played safe and waited half an hour, doing the dishes and random stuff. Then make a save-state still on the main screen. ( I insert a credit to get the game out of the attract sequence to the main screen before saving) Voila! Your instant minimum rank. Remember that after using up a credit the rank goes up a little bit, so you should do that F10 thing again, but 1 or 2 attract sequences should be enough this time.

Oh, and when loading that state the next time you play the game on MAME, you must pass the boot sequence again till the main screen and THEN load the state, otherwise the game will go crazy and crash.

The game does get a LOT easier on minimum rank; the first attack of Deviate for instance is brutally fast on max rank - you really will feel the difference on the bosses!

Personal taste aside, Batrider is worth it`s pricetag very much; the insane amount of ship selection, extra bosses, playmodes and scoring opportunities plus excellent Namiki soundtrack is a huge package for a shmup!

I like Batrider; it's got a Raizing All-Stars kinda feel to it. You got Mahou and Garegga ships, and the game options are customizable! (There are dip switch that allow you to enable the secert characters and allow single ship playthroughs if you don't like the team aspect).

Batrider to me is what Mugen for shmups should be like.

Guys, I am having trouble with the DIP setting through MAME (ok to talk about this here?). Namely, I can't get stage edit and character edit to work. Any help appreciated. I changed the DIP settings but they seem to not take effect? Not sure what is wrong

Well, iirc, you have to either use a special code at the start screen OR use a cheat file and active the level and character select this way.

Or was that in Bakraid? Yeez, my memory fails....

Ah, here it is:

Also, I guess you can talk about MAME as long as you don`t request a ROM file or something.

Does anyone have a theory on why Garegga is perceived as such an awesome game by so many when APB is not?
The majority of STG players can only handle the challenge that Garegga has to offer. Even if APB has everything great about Garegga and more, many players (myself included) are too lousy at it to see this. That would be my guess, anyway. I'm sure it's an excellent game, but with my limited experience with the genre it's a frustrating one.

This is great news. I can easily 1cc APB and hear BG is one of the hardest shmups ever. I must be a shooting god!

(also, by law, all APB threads must contain a post by me)
