*WHEW* Finally finished the normal course after repeatedly reaching stage 5 boss. My last couple of runs ended in capitulation from a seemingly sound position(2 lives in stock entering stage 5), so its nice to finally see it through!

Normal Course
3,051,380 - Adam76 - ALL - Strawman(A)

Wow, my first 1cc ever. Been working on it for a couple months. This is signifigantly easier after trying to attack Garegga for a few weeks. Someday I'll suck less.

I call dead last, and by a fair margin it appears.

Normal course

3,271,270 - FrederikJurk - 5 - Jyuji (C)

Just beaten my old score of 2.971.930 with Strawman right after getting up today and this was nearly the first thing I did. After that I kept messing up things so I`ll read a book instead. Obviously I didn`t trigger extra bosses, but milked Bazzcoks flying drones for the first time without really planing it in adcance - some kind of subconcious thing maybe. Died at the late Highway stage since I never really practiced it. Still no consistency in taking apart the standard bosses but quite a good medal chain. I love Jyuji, his powered up option lasers cut through enemies like hot knife through butter - no more accidential running into stupid little enemies!

Normal course

3,763,580 - FrederikJurk - 5 - Maria C

At first I thought her screen-covering shots were weak, but I guess I was wrong - great for surviving, nice bomb, quick ship. Picking up medals like a mad man. Missed the second extend at the beginning of the Highays stage because I died WHILE TRYING TO CATCH IT.Next time I`ll rather let this extend pass then blindly suiciding on a feeble attempt to get it. Meh, I guess the final boss would`ve killed me anyway.

I didn`t realized that I am on the way to 1cc-ing it, would be my first one ever. I love you, Batrider.

All shmups require dedication. ^_-

Make sure you take full advantage of the resources on the forum, and ask questions if you need help. Cigs, DEL, myself and anyone else will be able to help you.

And practice. Keep at it, and you should start to make some breakthroughs with your own strategies. ^_-

Breaking through right now, I practically played it the whole day (way too hot to go outside):

Normal course

4,092,390 - FrederikJurk - 5 - Maria (C)

Getting the medal chain up really fast this time and kept it till the very end; and more important I learned to cut out on collecting surplus power up items which I mindlessly kept catching and thus angering the rank quite a bit  Received two extends, panic-bombing the blue hovercraft at St.5, then finally dying while tying to catch 4 medals falling down simultaneously out of those two helicopters :x

I guess I will dream of this game tonight!

Slight improvement without an ALL this time, but I'm working on towards 4.5m ALL score as part of my shmups goal for this year.

What a lucky day!

Normal course

4,909,250 - FrederikJurk - 6 - Miyamoto (C)

I decided to give Miyamoto, my favourite ship from the Mahous a try, and voilà, look at that score increase - nearly 1mil pointgain. I died pretty often on the first tries, but triggered Bashi, Gob-Robo and Bashi mk2 this way. And while I had no strategy on milking them, I survived Bashi quite well (and learned from my past mistakes where I triggered the dreaded "two medals that fall simultaneously and on the opposing sides of the screen"), destroyed Gobs morning stars too early (which would have been a nice tight string of max medals), and finally, met mk2 for the first time, with max medal, and got quite a bunch of medals from the drones, until I missed my third extend because I wasn`t planning to score that well. :x Oh well.

Lost my last life on that damn Highway stage again. So far, my plans for ALLing the game first get behind milking the extra bosses for the third extend since there there are massive pointgain possibilities.

The only problem is that Miyamoto is REALLY strong, and his wide option shot almost made me kill my medal chain when the green and yellow planes on Sky High appeared. Also, he kills Bazzcok very quickly, so I hadn`t time for milking the drones; but that is quite a risky business when I have no bomb shells in stock. Maybe I won`t max his options next time, but on the other hand I like their strenght. Type A is out of question since he has just the right speed for me.

@ArrogantBastard

How come your Advance scores are so much better than your Normal scores? Didn`t play Advance too much, are there more extra bosses?

2,539,320 - bloodflowers - 5 - Strawman (A)

Can't seem to find more points before there. Also, why is it some ships seem to score twice as much as others, even when you get as far with comparable medalling?

Edit:
2,928,960 - bloodflowers - 5 - Strawman (A)

Dropping the metal chain in 4 really hurt - I'm sure I would have hit an extend.

I used to experience this with Strawman, and my theory would be that with some ships you attack the single parts of the bosses first (homing options like Shorty or Strawman) instead of killing them in one piece quickly. Another thing is that some ships simply destroy nearly everything in sight - Maria or Miyamoto have a large shot radius and can kill a lot of enemies, while others have wide bomb shots, and, as we know, bombing gives more points on many occasions.

Also, without going into much detail (which should be in the strategy section), the airplane section has those elevators that can be bombed individually, and if you bomb them one after another instead of all at once, you should get a nice medal increase from that. Watch Icarus level 1 replay to check out how much score you can get from Stage 1 alone!

A small portion of your total score will come from Garegga-like scenery bombing for points and Medals (lots of them in Airport and Sewer), while another portion will come from secret bosses. Strawman is a good ship to get a clear with, but as with all the Batrider ships, on their own they have a very low scoring total. Mixing them up with Garegga/Mahou ships, or selecting a Garegga/Mahou ship outright will get you a bit more in points.

Yeah, the extra bosses add up - I made almost a 1mil score increase with changing from Maria to Miyamoto. Sadly I couldn`t replicate this since - I always lose my medal chain on Bashinet, those Mahou extra bosses can really give you headaches.

Starting to try and get a bit deeper into this game. Until now I just played it from time to time without reading about the game system. Wanted to settle with this game a bit now.

That's my score for now:

Normal Course:
Edge - 2'506'120 - Stage 4 - Flying Baron (A) / Shorty (B) / Birthday (A)

Still have to figure our which ships and types are the best choice. There are obviously a lot of combinations possible. :p
Oh, and what is it about the "Start + A" to increase fire rate? I read about it in Matt's FAQ. Do I have to push Start + A once in a game to trigger it for the entire game, once a stage or do I have to hold Start during the entire game?

This game's incredibly fun, although I sometimes run into harmless random bullets because I didn't notice them. :D
