Trails in the Sky is the best place to start Legend of Heroes right?

Yeah, and you are in the best time in history to get into this series, because only now you can play them officially in order:

Trails in the Sky FC
Trails in the Sky SC
Trails in the Sky The 3rd
Trails from Zero
Trails to Azure
Trails of Cold Steel 1-4
Trails into Reverie
Trails through Daybreak 1-2

Or you can just wait for the release of the remake of that first game, its coming out worldwide this year

Because the world is an unfair place.
Zero and Azure were officially released almost 1 year ago, before that you could only play them using fan translations, and the ones available for psp back then were unfinished and terrible.

No matter what people and Falcom/NISA/XSEED say, playing these games in order is essential, and even more with those 2 games i mentioned cause the plot overlaps with the Cold Steel games, and playing CS first (as a lot of people did sadly) spoils almost the entire story of Zero/Azure.

I'm five games in at this point, and the first Trails in the Sky is still the best of the bunch by a long shot.
Absolutely zero reason not to start there.

For some reason, I tried the demo for the Trails in the Sky remake. It kept going and going and I wondering when it was going to stop, so I checked online and apparently it's 6 hours long! Huh. That's an interesting strategy: let people play the demo for so long that it gets them legitimately invested enough to want to buy the real game. I don't know if I am going to do that. The real-time battle system is not very good. It's hard to describe why, but it feels really weird. Maybe "slippery" or "imprecise" are good adjectives. Or something. It feels undercooked. I don't know how to best describe it, but whatever. MASSIVE hitstun, though. The turn-based battle system feels like actual effort was put into it, which is nice. Maybe I'll check this game out. Not sure yet.

I have the US PSP version of Trails in the Sky somewhere. I very clearly remember buying it at the PX on Camp Foster after one of my friends (who I believe had never played it) convinced me to buy it, a miracle in itself considering it's a turn-based RPG that I was certain would put me to sleep. I never played it. I kind of regret that. Not going to play it now though because I don't play Japanese games without Japanese text anymore, except for arcade games that don't have Japanese text. Apparently this sells for like $70 complete on ebay now??? That's a decent amount of cash for a PSP game.

A visual for the upcoming new game on the Dragon Slayer series just dropped, and it seems it will be related to Drasle Family/Legacy of Wizard.
I imagine it being a metroidvania, or even better, a 3D action platformer in the same vein of Gurumin/Zwei 2/Nayuta.
Cant wait to get more info about it.

Im glad falcom is doing something different instead of making more Ys clones. Kyoto Xanadu being a 2D dungeon crawler with 3D arena boss fights makes a lot of sense knowing how the original games were like.
