Re: Raiden Fighters Remix Collection
There's a chance that adjusting the frame rate to make it more accurate will also improve the controller polling. It's possible the game is displaying extra frames without any extra polling checks of the controller.
It all depends on how closely the port is coded in relation to the arcade game - if they just upped the framerate without upping the controller check frequency then you would get lag added. You could get a 2 or 3 frame reduction perhaps if the frame rate is reduced provided the controller polling is coded correctly for the lower frame rate.

Will they fix the frame rate? Fantastic! So I'll get it right away and while I wait I'll play it at 60fps, so when it gets to the right frame rate it will be easier *-*

Calling it now, and I hope I'm wrong: They'll crudely implement the 54fps patch and the game will judder because they don't know how to frame blend.

Re: Raiden Fighters Remix Collection
That's a possibility if for example they just hack it and skip certain frames - I'm hoping it works out for the better.
Just received my copy for Switch from play-asia. It patched itself when I launched it but I'm guessing that isn't the fix?
The game feels OK to me but I'm really bad at consciously noticing lag and I haven't played these games much apart from an hour or two using shmupMAME so I'm no judge as to the game speed accuracy. They feel harder than in MAME but with MAME I'm sitting closer to the screen and using my Hori RAP which makes a big difference with me. I was playing these on the TV using my Hori mini stick for Switch.

On the JPN & Asian variant Raiden Fighters remix Collection LE sets, what's on the 3 separate music CDs?
And is the tate option for all three Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters 2: Hell Dive and Raiden Fighters Jet in full-screen 4:3 mode?

The best solution would be for it to support VRR on PS5, but that doesn't seem particularly likely to happen.

For davyK,
Thanks for the heads up on the tate options for all three Raiden Fighters stgs -- that's good to learn about/know ahead of time.

Filtering can be set for each game as can wallpapers. The rotation setting is a universal setting for all games, menus , title screen etc.
Replay support is missing which is a disappointment but I'm enjoying these games - they are rip roaring

Ok ok perhaps extra six fingers for the player ship. And slop filter to boost contrast and saturation to the max! /s

Heh! Yeah. Odd decision but it's fun. Scanlines is enough for me.SavagePencil wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2026 2:06 amYou mean “poorly maintained, needs a new flyback” arcade CRT filter, right?
Noticed that the Xevious port by Hamster archives has different burn in options - amused me.

Is it just me, or are the 3 Raiden Fighters the easiest Raiden ever? I thought it was much, much harder. Even though I've only played Raiden I and III.

I find the arcade versions in MAME on the same level as Fire Shark. I have to set it to Easy in Aces.

Got the Japanese version and played a couple of credits of part 1 and one credit of part 2 - boy, these are fun games, very hectic, with learnable bullet patterns and pleasently simple scoring system. The train level in 2 was really cool. I wish the bullets didn't blend so much with the background though. Re: lag, can't say since I have to play with the incredibly shite Switch's standard pad's d-pad, which seems even worse to me than the Xbox360's...
I'm sure someone's mentioned it in this thread already, but are there marked differences between the American and the Japanese versions with regards to gameplay?

Re: Raiden Fighters Remix Collection
I got the Xbox 360 collection a couple years ago and it's fan-tastic. Low-res, tate support, tons of options, plays like a dream (I've played the arcade boards too).
Hard to get excited about another collection personally. But for convenience and portability it could be nice for some.

Re: Raiden Fighters Remix Collection
I tend to get excited when it's a collection that's been stuck arcade-only or has been locked on a very old platform (or one particularly prone to hardware death) but I'm definitely holding off to see if they can reasonably fix this one. Gut feeling says they probably won't fix the most important parts; I'll gladly eat my words and advocate for this if they can prove me wrong.
It's pretty depressing how many collections are ending up half-assed because the team doing the work either isn't capable or the company commissioning the work doesn't want to pay for the effort to get it right. Even M2 is somewhat at the mercy of Konami for some of the remaining issues on Gradius Origins, despite their usually stellar work.

Re: Raiden Fighters Remix Collection
This whole thing has been hurting me, because I was frustrated to never be able to try the Xbox 360 collection due to region lock. Here's to hoping that the patch will do it's job so I can finally get it. I don't feel like shelling few hundred for the PCBs, perhaps if those things were still available at 120€ range like they were over decade ago, when I bought Raiden DX and Viper Phase 1.. cheapest Raiden Fighters PCB right now on ebay is 187$ for a slightly malfunctioning one, with over 80$ for shipping. And few hundred for functioning one..

It's worth "ponying up the extra dough/bite the bullet" nowadays to acquire the entire Seibu Kaihatsu SPI cart collection of Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters 2: Operation Hell Dive and Raiden Fighters Jet with a dedicated SPI motherboard set -- in going this particular route, it allows you the choice to play 'em either in monophonic or stereo sound output (via a custom-made stereo RCA phono jack cable harness setup) + RTC functionality & saving of both high scores & high score initials via the on-board back-up battery. This is the preferred way to play them as they were originally meant to be played with the standard jamma pcb setup/configuration.
----------
The single-layer Seibu Kaihatsu SPI + rom pcbs don't have a back-up battery + if it has a Yamaha sound chip installed, those are the ones to get + they are monophonic sound output only:
Single-layer pcb of Raiden Fighters
Single-layer pcb of Raiden Fighters 2: Operation Hell Dive
Single-layer pcb of Raiden Fighters Jet 2000 -- China variant version

Or just get a used NA 360 for like $50, then a copy of the NA version for another $50 and you're set.MJR wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 11:09 am This whole thing has been hurting me, because I was frustrated to never be able to try the Xbox 360 collection due to region lock. Or just use ABadAvatar on any existing 360 to softmod it and get it to play. For bonus points, you can convert the disc version to Games On Demand and play it off your hard drive to save wear and tear on your optical drive.

I'm hanging on to see if they sort this frame rate issue, but if they do I will import the Japanese physical.
Play Asia say it's in Japanese language only (menus etc), can anyone confirm this? Asia version does say English/Japanese though.
Thanks.

It's not that easy unfortunately if you live in Europe or UK, and many of us now over here simply refuse to have any business dealings whatsoever with America (doesn't apply to Canada). So to get the JP unit and game, you are looking at about £500 today's prices and fees, pretty stiff huh?Jonpachi wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 2:32 pmOr just get a used NA 360 for like $50, then a copy of the NA version for another $50 and you're set.MJR wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 11:09 am This whole thing has been hurting me, because I was frustrated to never be able to try the Xbox 360 collection due to region lock. Re: Raiden Fighters Remix Collection
I hear you, but if you buy a Japan-region 360 you're still buying a product from a US company, just coded for a different region. And by now they're just used goods anyway, so the money is going to whomever is selling it not M$ or the US. Anywho, enjoy the hunt!R79 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2026 10:11 amIt's not that easy unfortunately if you live in Europe or UK, and many of us now over here simply refuse to have any business dealings whatsoever with America (doesn't apply to Canada). Can't they just implement VRR the way the Seibu games do in Retroarch. Immediately fixes any issues with minimal effort. It's literally a global switch in Retroarch.
