Zanac EX (MSX2) now on Switch via EGGConsole

Post by hamfighterx »

As the topic says, the MSX2 version of Zanac EX released this week. US eShop link: https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/produ ... x2-switch/

Zanac (MSX) also made it earlier this year: https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/produ ... sx-switch/

Now I'm kind of salivating over the seemingly very realistic prospect of seeing the MSX2 Aleste, Aleste 2, and Aleste Gaiden...

I just checked what this week's EGGConsole release was as well and was equally excited. I also look forward to the MSX Konami shooters, which are on EGG on PC in Japan.

Yeah, it's a good one. Very similar to the Famicom Zanac, but some graphical differences and I think I prefer the MSX2 version. Both the FC and MSX2 versions are a significant change from the original MSX Zanac, which has the distinctive MSX stuttery scrolling.

Well I'm late to the party but I just learned about the EGGConsole releases today and oh god it's Falcom and Compile everywhere. RIP my wallet.

Only thing with this version is that you won't be able to use all the fun fan patches. The OPLL music patch is quite lovely.

Wow! Steam really is inevitable.

Looks like the same box art/sticker label the NA NES had. The MSX originals had incredible artwork on them, pretty expensive too last time checked.

I've been having a blast with this so far. It feels a bit easier than the NES version in the opening three stages or so. Still, if you suddenly lose your power-ups by dying in, say, a stage 4 boss, it can be a decent challenge to recover.

I wish more games had this pick-up-and-play-ability. Hold down one button and go!
