Segagaga has been fully translated

Even if it's AI, at least it's better than nothing. But now we can finally understand what's going on.

Ew. No. Untranslated is better than AI slop.

The only part that's actually a fun game is the Thunder Force-style segment at the very end where you fight Sega's console line-up, anyway.

Yeah, I'd sooner use a phone camera with google translate.

The AI doesn't even fully understand what's going on.

At least I'm still playing the game in English. Though I was already struggling with playing the game in Japanese last year because of the development parts. I had to download a save file from GameFAQs just to get through the game in its entirety rather than use the debug.

So they have a 'lead translator' that has been working 'nonstop', yet they needed to use AI? Huh.

Oh, here's a response to those complaining about the use of AI.

Just go learn Japanese and then you will never have to rely on Japanese -> whatever language translations ever again. It only takes about 5~10 years of study. Then you can play almost whatever you want in Japanese. Games like Akai Ito will still probably kick your ass though.

And yes, this game mostly sucks anyway. I played it a few years ago and it's pretty boring/annoying.

I don't know if this is really a response from anyone in particular. If anything, it's clarifying that the translation is indeed, ass. Good news is that the group at least made it available so that if anyone does translate it, they won't have to deal with the hardships on the technical side that kept the game so elusive in the first place.

My impression is that even though there was a translator/editor well renowned and thoroughly familiar with SGGG and its myriad of obscure references, someone in the team got tired of waiting and let AI finish it off then push it out to release, damn the consequences.

They probably just didn't foresee the shitstorm that followed.

I'm just getting really tired of all the AI hate. Saying that it's not real and things like that. At least we have something for once, you know?

People don't just hate AI blindly. There's a lot of strong reasons.
I could crap on AI all day. There's a lot of reasons to hate it. Morally and otherwise. Think about something you're deeply passionate about and know a fair amount on. Now go Google some details on the subject or ask a question about some intricacy and watch how wrong it is, but how it passes it off with such conviction. As a funny aside, it pulls an obscene amount of data from Reddit.

I never want to hate on any person/group that works for free, either creating mods, hacks, or full translation projects like this. It's thankless work and deeply appreciated on my end.

I think a lot of people feel the same way, and I think a lot of the disappoint lies in a.) how long people have wanted this game translated, and b.) this is a very nuanced, in-joke game with a lot of subtleties that AI can't pick up on. If anything, it's just a huge disappointment. I haven't followed it closely, but I'm also pretty sure this group wasn't that transparent with their AI usage until the release, which caught a lot of people off guard.

'Better than nothing' works in some cases, but people want to see this clever, hilarious game accurately. Not a stiff, machine translation with no soul.

AI is a tool like anything else, and I don't blindly object to it being used to the point where I immediately want everyone involved thrown over the coals, but it definitely needs to be regulated and extensively cross-referenced, especially if used for something like SGGG with tons of references and obscure in-jokes.

I took a course on AI for my CJ degree, and it's fascinating what it's capable of, but it also sheds light on how limited it is when not properly regulated or applied.

It's one thing if you use it to translate a straight forward dungeon crawler like Wizardry, something entirely different if it's a game full of story nuances and religious references like Shin Megami Tensei, but either way, it needs to be used properly, not blindly.

Find it odd that it's got a T-rating on the front and on the back it's actually Everyone for "Mild Violence". But is this worth getting a Dreamcast for? The one I got in Christmas 2005 stopped working a while ago. And I lost it too.

I don't think any bootleg is worth buying a console for, and that bootlegs in general are also absolutely not worth buying. If you're going to pay someone for illegal shit of questionable quality, don't, and instead just use an emulator + ROM or disc image at that point.

The Dreamcast and its library in general are excellent, however, and everyone should own at least two of them because of that. I do! No, you can't have my extra one because it's a near-mint condition Sakura Taisen CIB semi-factory sealed Dreamcast.

The Dreamcast has a plethora of 'weird' games, Sega didn't give a damn and it showed, in all the best ways. There's so many quirky niche titles that weren't afraid to go for the moon and experiment.

Jet Set(Grind) Radio, I-SPY Operation Espionage, Illbleed, Space Channel 5, Chu Chu Rocket, Shenmue, Ecco, the list goes on and on. It's a must-have.
