Re: Night Striker Gear announced!
Downloaded it a few days ago and I knew I'd love it right away. Put an hour or so into it. Short, simple, addicting. Very arcade-like. No frills or BS. Look forward to playing it again, just been working a lot. My next day off is Tuesday and I can't wait. Grew up on Space Harrier and this is the closest new game to it I've played in years.

Re: Night Striker Gear announced!
I have not, but I remember seeing it as an upcoming release a while ago. Just saw the gameplay and it's basically Space Harrier 3. I'm going to check to see any potential physical. Thank you, my friend for reminding me of it.AGermanArtist wrote: ↑Sun Feb 01, 2026 9:10 amHave you played Asura The Striker?Gamer707b wrote: ↑Sun Feb 01, 2026 6:31 am Downloaded it a few days ago and I knew I'd love it right away. It's pretty great and has enough new mechanics, so it doesn't feel like a basic retread. Would also recommend Sin & Punishment 2 on Dolphin at 4K, particularly if you have access to a Dolphin bar ($30) and a Wii-Mote/Nunchuck.

I love Sin and Punishment, both games. I bought Star Successor when it first came out. That's when I became a Treasure nut. After playing S&P 2. The rest is history. Of all the rail shooters I've played in my 51 years, S&P 2 would be my favorite. Still play it on my Wii. This year, I'm going for a 1cc of the whole game. Crossing fingers.AGermanArtist wrote: ↑Mon Feb 02, 2026 8:10 am It's pretty great and has enough new mechanics, so it doesn't feel like a basic retread. I thought the base game was kind of anaemic in a lot of ways and also frustrating that the real meaty part of the game is hidden behind a locked mode from the start. It felt like it got sold a bit short and M2 just threw it out there with little love and fanfare like they and Iuchi just wanted to wash their hands of it lol.

You could say that of anything M2 does. They're usually quite understated. It's often the publisher they're working for that drags them into press. The recent Gradius collection for example - they literally did 2 blog/magazine pieces, something which they rarely seem to do. In this case they'd been teasing Night Striker Gear for a year+ in their standard presentations. As for it being anemic, what were you expecting? A 35hr campaign? It's an update of a relatively short arcade experience. It's true to the source material.

Re: Night Striker Gear announced!
I think I finished a 1CC normal difficulty run (no TLB) on my second or third try. Definitely couldn't do that in Night Striker. I didn't find anything particularly challenging or dangerous. Also thought the gear mechanic didn't really have much oomph or sense of power to it. Also the lack of animation or some visual flare on the car and mech came across as a bit low budget. So as I said, the base game was lacking in some areas for me.AGermanArtist wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 6:04 am You could say that of anything M2 does. They're usually quite understated. I would appreciate very much an option to adjust input sensitivity as no matter how I play, I don't feel "full control" so if I die, it feels unfair.
That, and people wished for training mode.
Alternative OST would be nice as well.

As is it is now, it really seems to be made for flight stick controls. Doesn't have to be an expensive one btw.

I like the music, it reminds me of Ikaruga. I know you all love it, but I think Zuntata is just a load of FM din.

Re: Night Striker Gear announced!
zuntata has come encompass a very broad spectrum of music, and generations. i dislike most of their newer (original) work but tend to find the old, harsher songs far more enjoyable. compare, for example, darius ii and cs.
i assume when people mention it here, it's mostly due to the original night striker having one of old zuntata's best

The only wrong way to play a game is whatever stops you from having fun with it.

I wish I could change the colour of the captain enemies to bright yellow or something in this. I'm RG colourblind and while I can eventually spot which one is red... it's definitely not instantaneous for me.

I'd love it if Solar Assault was given the same treatment in the next Gradius thing, if there ever was to be one.

Yes! The Gear soundtrack is so boring and puts me to zzzzSavagePencil wrote: ↑Tue Feb 03, 2026 5:21 pmthis. There is nothing Zuntata, or even interesting, about the soundtrack in that game. To its detriment.

Re: Night Striker Gear announced!
I like some of the tracks in Gear, but... they were kinda not what I was expected from Night Striker sequel. I agree it somehow feels close to Ikagura music at times.
As for "Zuntata old and new", I have favorites from both for sure. Speaking of Dariusburst, I think it was great with Shohei Tsuchiya and Hirokazu Koshio working together. Meanwhile classic era with Hisayoshi Ogura, Yasuhisa Watanabe, Tamayo Kawamoto, Masahiko Takaki, Hideki Takahagi, Kazuko Umino etc. is legendary, for sure. Where does Shizuo Aizawa fits though?
I looked into composer of Gear - that's Yukiharu Urita - and I'm surprised he was with Zuntata since 90s.

Loving the remixed music tracks on this game,
The Darius Gaiden music is some of the greatest in my book. I remember hearing some live recording of those tracks many years ago, so good.
My other Zuntata-related favorites are from Yack.
\Do you know Yack/?
Yasuhisa "Yack." Watanabe (渡部恭久)
Metal Black
Border Down
Watanabe's unique sound design and unusual melodies (at least to my untrained ears) is a world unto itself. a world-building aesthetic

Somewhat unrelated but M2's latest (not Shottriggers) is apparently a Ganbare Goemon collection? Japanese release only.

Good to know. It's a coin toss with Konami whether they'll work with the industry leader or the lowest bidder. Their new Bomberman collection is by some no-names, so probably more in line with Lagital Eclipse's Lagabunga Collagtion.

Wait, is there an alternate OST in Night Striker Gear?
