N64 control stick grease options

Post by Xan »

I have a N64 pad with a control stick in good shape that I'm looking to start using, however still need to take it apart and grease the analog stick. I found two products that I could reasonably get and that both get mentioned in this context, Molykote EM-30L and Super Lube multipurpose silicone-free. Spec sheets for both:

https://www.dupont.com/content/dam/Dupo ... 06C-01.pdf
https://www.super-lube.com/wp-content/u ... Grease.pdf

I would expect both to do the job, but am wondering if someone might have an argument to use one of them in particular. One difference is, Molykote is noticeably more viscous than Super Lube. You definitely want something with decent viscosity to avoid anything seeping out or getting onto the optical parts.

A secondary use would be to grease some PS1 CD drive rails and such. They seem to only get louder with age and probably could use some maintenance.

Well, maybe.

Any particular reason to avoid PTFE? Those greases I have mentioned are supposed to be plastic safe.
