Seems pretty obvious to me — the Switch 1 still has a couple of years left of releases at least, and since the 2 will in all likelihood be backwards compatible, they don't want PCs out there running Switch games at higher resolution/framerates than what the Switch 2 will be able to do. Also, I'm sure the Switch 2 will have an improved encryption/copy protection scheme vs. the original, but if history has shown us anything, it too will be cracked eventually and if the 2 has similar architecture to the Switch, existing emulators may be fairly close to being able to run Switch 2 games which would be even more damaging. It's true that another team(s) will probably take up the mantle, but there are only so many devs with the skills to do this, and most of them have lucrative careers already, so this seems like a pretty effective tactic as much as that sucks.

Bumping this thread for some info i gathered this week.

ootake, the best pce emulator imo, got an update after 4 years!!, apparently fixing the vsync to have less latency.
https://www.ouma.jp/ootake/

and flycast, the dc/naomi/atosmiswave emulator, had its yearly update a few days ago and it dropped the win7 support for no reason aside some cosmetic shit on the ui.
its getting so hard to keep using this OS lately.

The goal is to force you to play inferior versions of the games on proprietary hardware controlled by Nintendo. The eventual goal is you will own nothing and you will be happy.

Windows... 7? I don't think Windows 7 even has Steam support anymore.

Maybe this isn't the place to ask this, but how is MiSTer's emulation of various arcade games as of now compared to the PCBs? Mostly interested in 1941 Counter Attack, Batrider, Bakraid, and maybe some other stuff like Mars Matrix or whatever. It's been a while since I have used my MiSTer, so I have no idea how it's performance is now... not I have sufficient experience playing those games on the real PCBs anyway, of course.

It varies quite a bit from core to core. In general the console cores and some of the personal computer cores are somewhat more accurate because the chips they use are more well documented and have been decapped in many cases. For the games you listed, the CPS2 core is probably the most mature although I believe there was a minor timing issue that was recently found and corrected. I've played all of the others you've mentioned and they all seem fine to my non-expert eyes.

Here's a skilled player playing Bakraid on the MiSTer core in 2022. He seems to feel it's nearly spot on and I'm sure the core has improved since then.
