RGB - Why does this keep happening?

Anyone remember that old doujin shmup, RGB? For some reason, every version I download, all the explosions are replaced with white squares. Is there a version that has all the explosions intact?

I'm trying to find a version of the game that has all the explosions. Because it just kills it for me. I don't know how to fix it.

Weird... This is a brand new laptop I've been using. Then, is there no way to fix it?

That's probably the issue: you say it's an old game, so it was probably made to run on an older version of Windows and/or older hardware, and something about the newer stuff gives it a bellyache. You can try to run then game in compatibility mode (a quick Google will impart instructions, it's not hard) with whatever version of Windows existed when the game was made, but that's not a guarantee, so you might just have to deal with the annoyance.
