Bug found in the 2600 Klax port #CX26192 on the 7800+ console.....

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

On the Atari 7800+ console, if you complete the fifth wave of the 2600 port of Klax and press "Pause" on the resulting Wave Warp Selection screen with the option to select Wave 6, 11 or 57, by "un-pausing" it will cause the CPU to cancel your current game and default back to game demo mode with your current score earned at the end of Wave 5 -- the CPU will play a couple of demo Klax Waves with your score earned on Wave 5 adding to it with no end-user interaction whatsoever. How cool is that? Upon the next Klax demo run being played out, the score will reset back to zero.

Just found out about this novel new 2600 Klax bug just now on 1/04/2026, Sunday. Makes me wonder if the dev of the 2600 port of Klax knows about this weird bug?

Insterestingly, the entire 2600 port of Klax is a mere 16K sized 2600 game making it the very last official 2600 game to released from Atari themselves in late 1990 for the UK/GB 2600 gaming market nevertheless. I'm pleasantly suprised that the Klax CX26192 game runs on the 7800+ console without any problems whatsoever (aside from the weird bug discovered today).

It's technically possible to move your tile catcher mid-way and still miss two tiles (if they both fall off the conveyor belt together at the same time -- odds of that happening are slim but it's still possible that it may occur anyway if the situation/condition arises) resulting in two drops registered by the CPU during a serious gaming session of 2600 Klax indeed. This particular pressing issue isn't mentioned in the 2600 Klax instruction manual either.
