Emerald Blue (Steam)
New game, new thread!~
Emerald Blue (Steam)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3977 ... rald_Blue/
Released!~
*** Update: Emerald Blue Xtrarev coming 25 December (New Difficulties, New Ura Route, New TLB)!~
This looks... very good!! Instantly get some strong Blue Wish (Desire, Resurrection, so on) vibes!~
There are a few 1CC videos on YouTube already @_@"... so, the game looks a bit short (12 minutes, or so?) but it is very fast paced... with very little pause!!
Even in-between levels there are no end-stage score cards... just kill boss, short pause, then next level start quite fast! Like!~
Definitely 100% this will be my next new STG to play... very soon!!

It is indeed very action-packed. Like a 10-minute Ketsui going at 100mph. Lots of fun.

Great find, that very much does look like X_X's games like Blue Wish Resurrection with the bullet shapes and pre-rendered visuals.

Bought the Steam port of the indie stg of Emerald Blue thinking that it was Steam Deck compatible but noticed the Windows icon associated with it -- it's not bootable on the Steam Deck but playable on a dedicated PC tower or laptop running Win10 OS. Go figure.
Game controller support for EB was added 11-26-2025 which is a plus in my book.

@PC Engine Fan X!, try setting some recent Proton in in Properties - Compatibility, it will probably boot.

There is a thread on Steam Discussions about this and someone said they have no problem with Proton, but I am not familiar with this, and do not have a Steam Deck... but usually for other games will see people who comment that for games without "direct" support you can still tell Steam to try anyway >.<"...PC Engine Fan X! wrote: ↑Thu Nov 27, 2025 7:24 pmit's not bootable on the Steam Deck but playable on a dedicated PC tower or laptop running Win10 OS. Re: Emerald Blue (Steam)
----------
I see that you have to select the "Proton Experimental" booter/loader which'll automatically download an update file & it'll auto-load so you can play Emerald Blue on either a 1st-gen LCD or 1.5v "refreshed" OLED Steam Deck setup (this was never mentioned/disclosed in the EB Steam Discussion board whatsoever -- I found out by "trial 'n' error"). So much trouble/heartache trying to get EB to run/boot up on a Steam Deck but alas, it's working 100% now as intended -- that should not be the case in this instance but it is what it is with "warts and all."
----------
----------
Since EB is set up for a WASD type of keyboard setup to play it, if using an 1st-party or 3rd-party Microsoft Series S/X gamepad/arcade stick with a Steam Deck, you'll have configure the proper keyboard buttons mapped out to the said gamepad/arcade stick. Once your favorite gamepad/arcade stick has been properly configured for the WASD layout, it's so much better indeed, to play EB as it was meant to originally be played, with a dedicated gamepad or arcade stick setup.
Here're the re-mapped keyboard keys to gamepad/arcade stick layout:
Left Analog Stick:
W --> Up
S --> Down
A --> Left
D --> Right
D-Pad:
Shift --> Up
Face Buttons:
X --> Z key
A --> X key
B --> C key
Y --> Enter key
----------
At least with a 1st-gen LCD-based Steam Deck setup, Emerald Blue runs at a silky-smooth arcade-spec 60fps framerate presentation which is the "gold standard" when it come to indie doujin stgs released nowadays on Steam. So be it.

Re: Emerald Blue (Steam)
I've amended my first post in regards to re-mapping the WASD keyboard keys to be played with a proper dedicated gamepad/arcade stick setup -- it works flawlessly as intended. Emerald Blue should've been configured with dedicated gamepad/arcade stick support from the get-go/very beginning and not as an "afterthought" IMO.
By using a "USB-A to USB-C" adapter, it's doable to use a dedicated gamepad/arcade stick directly interfaced with the Steam Deck's USB-C I/O port without using a dedicated 1st-party Valve produced or 3rd-party Steam Deck Dock needed/necessary whatsoever.
----------
Of course, there's always the "Joy 2 Key" utility app to reconfigure the WASD keys to your personal tastes/liking as usual if played on a laptop or PC tower setup if it needed be -- this is used with the indie released doujin stg titles released outside of Steam indeed.
----------
Your latest high score is saved for posterity and will reappear the next time Emerald Blue is booted up for gameplay as shown on the main title screen itself. How cool is that?
It seems like that there's no dedicated Tate support for Emerald Blue is there (or is it hidden from view/accessibility)?
There are plans to add proper online leaderboard support for Emerald Blue at a later date according to the developer.
Just got a message during a serious gaming session of Emerald Blue that popped up on my Steam Deck just now that caused it to crash "big time" (first time I've encountered this pressing issue at hand):
----------

Re: Emerald Blue (Steam)
I had to use JoyToKey to remap to stick to play the demo, but I think the Steam release is supposed to have full pad/stick support. I found the demo quite difficult, but I didn't get to play it much. I'll be curious to hear impressions of the game. I think it does a lot right, but I had a hard time coming to grips with the systems at work, so I'd have to put some real time into it to get a better feel for it.

The developer of Emerald Blue released a new 39.4mb patch on 12/02/2025 that updates it to "Emerald Blue Rev. 2" including proper online leadetboard support (so you get to see who's got the scores worthy of posting for all to see).

Re: Emerald Blue (Steam)
Not me, at least yet, but pumped to hear there’s leaderboards now. Game is tough.
I think you sorta alluded to it, but the button mapping is very particular with my arcade stick. I noticed when I mapped the laser to my 1st button, bomb 2nd button, and the regular shot to 3rd button, the laser wouldn’t trigger unless I was holding down the shot button, and the shot button didn’t have any auto fire so I was tapping with my ring finger. I decided to rebind the shot to button 1 to make tapping easier, but then auto fire worked and with laser on the 3rd button, the laser worked without having to hold the shot button down.
It’s possible I somehow mapped it wrong, but I tried remapping it in that first format a handful of times before switching the shot to the 1st button
Very peculiar, but after I had it mapped in a working order, it made it significantly easier to play even tho the game is still tough.

Re: Emerald Blue (Steam)
Steam has a built-in controller config, which will work on every app there (and even non-steam games if you leave it on). It's worth learning how to use for indie games missing controller features.
Joy2Key is probably more intuitive though.

Re: Emerald Blue (Steam)
After watching some videos I gave in and bought this on Steam.
Game is admittedly missing some QOL features such as more intuitive controller remapping, a quick start feature, local leaderboards (online leaderboards don't even display your own score, only the top 10), and even a button to exit back to Steam! Hopefuly these issues will get ironed out over time.
Notwithstanding that, gameplay is awesome, super addictive, and it's definitely a tough one. Strong Blue Wish vibes, that can only be a good thing. I can barely make it to stage 3, game starts kicking balls right at the very start. Will need some practice to master this one.

Re: Emerald Blue (Steam)
Yes, still outstanding issues with game... but, almost every day there is patch, and at least dev seems to read my feedback thread on Steam even if not always reply >.<!~ So, today, online leaderboard finally fixed... past few days every time my submitted score is always around half of what I actually get @_@"... but, now it works! But stupid patch break practice mode for TLB... after patch to make TLB harder. Zzz. Very annoying! Actually, got very close to 1CC before that patch... but, wanted to play Stardew Valley this week lol...
Thought wait for a bit more polish, and now TLB harder. Great! Will try more this weekend >.<!~

Re: Emerald Blue (Steam)
Well, the early demo I played was from Itch.io and so that wasn't an option for obvious reasons. In any event, I'm hopeful that the Steam experience will be better for me with regard to control options.

Re: Emerald Blue (Steam)

Just got clear!~
This game is evil @______@"...
TLB is super crazy fight, especially last phase, big big chaos!~
Biggest struggle with this game is chain death is very easy, esp in Stage 4... because too much crap going on, and in this game death is really not very clear when screen super messy...
Sometimes will die, and wonder where is ship, because invincibility from after death (which is super short) also not clear.
Most STG when ship respawn you will see nice arrow showing P1 and also common have like big bubble around ship to show that you are invincible so can track ship very fast again.
In this game... ship move speed of light... well, everything move speed of light... so sometimes very hard regain position.
And... the whole game almost everything is blue + green lol.
But this is a very good game. It is sad, I feel, that it is not very popular so far it seems >.<!~

Just for info, big patch coming! December 25th @_____@"...
As of now, this game just one difficulty. After patch, will have one below (Novice) and one above (Xtreme). Patch will also add Ura route, and another TLB if Ura route is reached!!~

Re: Emerald Blue (Steam)
cool, I look forward to that patch. I hope they also finally implement quick restart and the option to exit directly to Steam without having to manually shutdown the game!
I really like it too though I keep getting my ass kicked and cannot make it past stage 3. Dying really sucks since as mentioned above it's hard to visually place your ship on the screen once it respawns, everything just looks way too blue or green. I feel this game has just a few more things to polish before it truly makes a breakthrough in the community.

Xmas day patch is out.
IMHO the improved enemy bullet visibility has elevated this game from "good" to "fucking good".
Between this and the 50% sale, it's a must buy.
