Re: R-Type Delta
Since this is on PC, I wonder if anyone will tweak the graphics further? Some of the seams between the polygonal backgrounds could be smoothed out.

Re: R-Type Delta
I hope so. I'd much prefer a gentle, tasteful upscale option (in the style of G-Dara HD) to the current texture-swapped 'HD' look. I'm interested to see if TakexOff add any further graphical options themselves, too — they posted a Steam update about "listening to fan feedback" a little while ago, so it sounds as though they do want to make a few tweaks, even if they're committed to e.g. the current running speed. (The latter honestly kinda rules once you get used to it, BTW — it's like having access to a secret R-Typer difficulty level.)

Re: R-Type Delta
I really appreciate the light-touch effort on the HD-ification of this one. They did just enough to bring it up into a modern resolution without compromising the core "janky goodness" of PS1-era visuals. The real problem with this package is just the price; $40 is a bit much for what is essentially a VHS movie slapped onto a Blu-Ray.

Re: R-Type Delta
I finally realized why I think the new textures for this look completely disgusting: they remind me of the heavy DNR + aggressive artificial sharpening from the horrible 2009 Star Trek Blu-rays that made Sulu and Data look like wax figures that someone poked a bunch of holes into.

Is there really no restart option in practice mode?

I think it looks pretty decent. The text is a bit overdone, though.Steven wrote: ↑Sat Dec 13, 2025 4:17 am I finally realized why I think the new textures for this look completely disgusting: they remind me of the heavy DNR + aggressive artificial sharpening from the horrible 2009 Star Trek Blu-rays that made Sulu and Data look like wax figures that someone poked a bunch of holes into.

Re: R-Type Delta
Just got this and want to restate how well I think they've done this HD remaster. Lovely work - retains the charm of the original (which I still own.) What's delightful about the original is how it throws polys around with gay abandon while feeling that it just about hangs together. Lovely stuff.
Also reminded me just how much damn fun this game is - I never really put enough time into it in the day but I'm going to put that right now.
(Switch physical - even has a little booklet). It's not M2 standard but frankly this is good enough. A few more features would have been welcome but - it means more people can play this lovely game now legally so I'm not complaining.
Thumbs up.

Re: R-Type Delta
Just skipping that goddamn Level 1 cutscene is enough to buy this version for.

Re: R-Type Delta
Oh nice, I was trying to mash through the intro the other day.
i also thought stage 3 was weird without the slowdown.
now if we ever get a Gradius 5 remake, hopefully we can skip those cutscenes too. Shmups should not have unskippable cutscenes at all.

Nothing should have unskippable cutscenes, really...
So this is in a good spot now? That PS1 copy at my local Book Off is calling to me. Every time I go in there I pick it up, inspect it (it's in great condition!), think about how awesome it would be to finally have it, and then put it back on the shelf. At this rate it's eventually going to wear me down and I'm gonna buy it, unless the PC version is a straight upgrade.

Re: R-Type Delta
The Switch version is good. It just had some odd things like no slowdown in the third stage. It’s pretty faithful otherwise. The only extra stuff it has is a graphical filter and the stuff just added in the patch. It’s good,
