No Steam day 1? That's unfortunate. I'm probably going to hold out for a PC version in case it has VRR support.

Yeah, that's sadge, however, Moss (Kaminari, etc.) doesn't release Steam ports on their own, they usually have a publisher to handle getting PC/Steam ports on there. (For example...UFO Interactive, NIS America, H2 Interactive, Bushiroad.)

Chances are, there might be one eventually, like the rest of the recent PC/Steam version's of their catalog/library.

SWEET! Great news. I'll be getting it on Playstation, but if it's 4 or 5 remains to be determined. I'll go for the one that is cheapest - and if they're priced the same I'll go for the one that looks better (how the artwork works with a blue vs white border at the top).

It'd be pretty shitty if they couldn't make these games (which run perfectly on X360) perform well on a regular Switch.
But even in the worst case scenario where they can't manage that task, it's likely it would run better on Switch 2 without a dedicated release regardless. It seems like a lot of games do.

Yeah, about that. Who is doing the emulation for this, or is that information not known yet? I hope it's someone good. It's disappointing that M2-like emulation quality that matches the PCBs or even exceeds them is the exception rather than the standard, which I would like it to be, and even M2 fucks stuff up on occasion, sometimes even quite badly like that crazy stuttering/pausing oddness that Switch Daioujou had at launch, but I have a hard time not comparing everything else to ShotTriggers. Maybe that's not a realistic expectation, but it would be nice if everyone did put out such quality work instead of being content with being just good enough.

Anyway, I've never played these games and often forget they exist (not as much as I forget that Gradius IV exists though lol), but I think this time I'm going to wait to see what the consensus on the emulation is. Are these closer to old Seibu Raiden or new(er) MOSS Raiden?

m.sniffles.esq, thank you!

P.S.

Guess no Switch 2 version natively because they haven't received devkit from Nintendo yet.

Yeah, it's been reported Nintendo have been super selective about who gets Switch 2 devkits. This was the quote from Digital Foundry coming out of Gamescom 2 months ago:
DF wrote: Nintendo seems to be almost discouraging Switch 2 development to some degree, where I've spoken with plenty of developers where they were either told that their game...they should just ship it on Switch 1 and rely on backwards compatibility. There's a lot of developers that are unable to get Switch 2 dev kits. We talked to a lot of devs at Gamescom this year and so many of them said the same things. They want to ship on Switch 2. They would love to do Switch 2 versions. They can't get the hardware. It's really difficult right now.

The RF trilogy is a 90s-generous evolution of Raiden DX's stuntman ethos. Emphasis is still on Fast Aimed Shots™, but you have the option of Dangun-fast ships whose screen-shredding MAXXX POWAAA is no longer locked behind punishingly lengthy curves. Accordingly, the frequency of Doing Dangerous Shit For Points is jacked up, with Speedkill (aka QUICKSHOT) and Multikill (aka DESTROYED AT A TIME) chains stacking to heady Jengaesque peril! Also there is medalling ala Garegga. EDIT: Hmm. More like ala NMK Macross actually. :o Imma start saying that from now on!

Also bullet grazing, ie frothy gallons of boss milk, which I always ignored tbh >w>

Good fun! Their PUMPIN CHOONZ can dismay and enrage those seeking Sato n' Sato's stately rock melancholies, but I dig 'em. tbh Sato² wouldn't fit nearly as well here! The most violent man of Shump Farm weighs in! (later died in a tragic mishap when the cops were called to he crib, after neighbours heard him say MICLUS WHAT THE FUCK, BITCH IMMA KILL U and he answered the door holding a busted JLF - inviting a hail of notoriously hard-to-evade Fast Unaimed Shots™!)

MOSS's games starting with Raiden III retained the scoring doohickies, eg Flash Get or whatever R3 calls its QUICKSHOT, but are a decided return to DX's more Kyuukyokuesque pacing. Making the RF trilogy - Shumps Trivia lovers will be hyped to know they were originally a new IP entirely, GUN DAWGS, but that Raiden name makes the gaijin punters say AHH SHEEEIT ITS THE BEST FLYING GAME EVER - an interesting divergence. I will get this, if the emulation does not blow! Here's hoping for VRR, these games could really use it tbh.

edit: yo, fuck Imgur and fuck the UK, that's what I'm sayin (2x middlefingers + EAT PUSSY SIGN ) cramping my hotlink style!

Well, that didn't take too long... https://www.gematsu.com/2025/10/raiden- ... ry-26-2026

Overseas release announced by H2 Interactive, arriving same day/date as the JP release. Sadly, no PC/Steam version mentioned, just the same console platforms that its being released for (PS4/PS5 and Switch).

I never liked imgur because it always seemingly was adding additional compression on jpeg images, and website itself was bloated and heavy to use on older devices.
I usually use Postimages though your choice of imgbb also seems nice. I used to favor german Abload, but sadly it went offline an year or two ago.

It's been 18 years since the last time these games were ported. If you own literal PCBs then this is clearly not for you. I'm personally very happy to have them for a console that isn't two decades old.

will it be really good like almost m2 level or something?

There are the Seibu Kaihatsu SPI carts of Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters 2: Operation Hell Dive and Raiden Fighters Jet -- all three SPI RF carts save both high scores & high score initials for posterity via the SPI's on-board back-up battery. How cool is that? With the proper 54hz framerate running on a candy cab or supergun setup, it doesn't get any better than that indeed.
