It's probably their worst game, but I enjoyed it. Beautiful Henk Nieborg graphics and fun for co-op. If you enjoy Gauntlet, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, etc. I think you'll like it. My main beef is that it's a bit too zoomed-in, if the scale had been more like Xeno Crisis I think the game would have benefitted quite a bit.

I kickstarted the Switch version. It's like a lower upper tier CPS2 game with excellent pure pixel art graphics. Music was done by Manami Matsumae, who worked on Mega Man and Final Fight, but honestly it sounded rather average IMHO.

Not sure where you're finding expensive Battle Axes, but I bought it exactly because it was so stupid cheap.
It's not a good game at all though. It's extremely mindless and boring, and the only thing that stands between you and a 1CC is memorizing a bunch of dumb trial-or-error moments.

I wish the amazing graphics weren't wasted on such a pointless product.

I did record a 1CC video just for posterity though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybrC4ISaGTg

Oh yeah, that's like twice of what I paid for a physical copy over four years ago.

Not sure why people would want to pay more for not getting to actually own their game :P

It's on sale for like $7.99 or something, but after about an hour I don't think I'll play it again :/

Oh yeah, I guess at the end of the day my point was that it sadly isn't really a game worth playing, despite the completely gorgeous graphics

Got the game. It's a pretty basic actioner for the most part, although there is some potential for score play — avoiding getting hit keeps your multiplier going up, and melee kills are worth double, so the game encourages high risk/reward. The default difficulty is almost comically easy after learning the game for a bit, but the Hard and Very Hard difficulties are a good challenge as is the arcade mode. Not sure how much replay value it has, but it's gorgeous to look at, sounds great, and is worth the sticker price IMO.

However, I was a bit disappointed that
Spoiler
you can't play as Kyle. I swear I saw a trailer with him in Technoir, but this game is entirely focused on the second movie.

How long are the story and arcade modes respectively?

https://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/ni ... 2d-no-fate

Sounds promising enough, harder difficulties actually changing stuff rather than simplistic bullet-sponge damage scaling. I'd have liked the middle ground of a £30 physical title though, rather than £45 and a whole bunch of fluff I don't really care about. Maybe it was to get around eshop/physical price parity or something, I dunno.... will have to think on it.

One of my favourite Twitch streamers Macaw45 played it last night and it seems to be game of the year for him, and he's a nut for games like this especially ones with good score systems: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2642367594
Seems to be around a 40 minute game for good players such as himself on 'normal' difficulty and modes that include all 15 stages. He's going to play it again tonight and try to get top of the scoreboards.

The story and arcade modes are pretty much identical to each other, just one has cutscenes and checkpoints and the other doesn't. 35-40 min was about what I averaged on Normal difficulty as well.

I've cleared story mode and thought it was underwhelming.

The gameplay reminds me of western sidescrollers of old: static, stiff and uninteresting. There's the handful of levels set in the future with Contra style gameplay that feel more dynamic, still there's hardly any level design worth talking about.

The presentation with cutscenes etc is allright I guess, although I thought the quality of the art and the art style and narrative rhythm to be inconsistent.

The biggest appeal of the game is certainly its connection to the movie, which personally I don't care too much about.

Imho, this is a flawed game with a ridiculous price tag.

Go play Neon Inferno.

As a matter of fact, last evening I dreamed vividly about a whole new Terminator multimedia franchise. Seemed a lot like the old one, actually, but then it was just a dream. It was the second Terminator-related dream I ever recall having.

Eh, idk. Having played both games—I like them both, but I had more fun with T2D. Conceptually Neon Inferno is great but I found constantly having to shoot into the background broke up the flow a lot, and found the level design really annoying in spots (the rafters in the opera house and the bit where you have to jump across a bunch of flying cars stick out). I feel both games are a little clunky in terms of the size of the sprites relative to the playfield, but rolling in T2D felt more fluid to me and I thought the melee was more enjoyable than the parry/melee mechanic in NI. Granted I do think a lot of T2D is hard carried by the license, but it's an excellent representation of one of the most iconic movies of all time, so that goes some distance. Great music in both games too.

Or play both. Why limit yourself? Unfortunately Neon Inferno won't be worth replaying until the.score mode is implemented.

I got this game the day before release, but I haven't played it yet. I'm going to have to return my copy because the cardboard box got squished in the mail due to shitty packaging -_-

Previous Bitmap Bureau games usually do difficulty levels like giving you only "Easy" and "Hard" with nothing inbetween. I always really appreciated that, so sucks if they stopped doing it this way. But at least having multiple levels of harder sounds promising! I'll probably start this one on at least Hard. I never played their "Easy" modes.

T2D: NF reminds me of the 16-bit Probe movie games. Better action game structure, but worse sprites, especially when compared to Stargate and Judge Dredd. Bitmap Bureau could benefit from model reference to avoid awkward posing and animation timing. Can't complain about the Nieborg contributions.

"Hasta la Vista" and "Judgement Day" seem like the intended difficulties. The lesser difficulties still have the environmental hazards of those, but in an inactive state.

Glad I was not the only one noticing that the srites did not look or move too great, although they are serviceable.

It's making me think of games like Rolling Thunder, Elevator Action Returns, Huntdown, etc. Maybe a little of the Megadrive Robocop vs Terminator. Not so much Contra, despite the references. Personally, I think they nailed it: quality ranks up there with Bitmap Bureau's other games, though the price is admittedly a little steep. Normal difficulty is good to get a feel for the game, but I'll agree with everyone who said it doesn't really get started until hard mode.

Before I sound too negative; I really want to like this game. But skimming the walkthrough does not exactly fill me with confidence: walk, meet single enemy, shoot it, walk... really? Commodore 64 could do better than that.
And the walkthrough seems to take at least an hour. Hour of walking and shooting single enemy at time?

Tell me I am wrong :(

I wasn't sold on it until I watched Iconoclast's playthrough on YT. It's not doing anything new and relies quite a bit on the license, and I somehow got it for free.
