Hi all - Long time lurker, first time poster.
I have this Extron VSC 700 that I am trying to use with my CRT over component. Since I got it, it has experienced these rolling bars of static even with no input. I thought that maybe I just needed to replace the caps and that would solve whatever ripple was getting transferred but even after a full recap, the issue is still there. I went through and made sure there are no broken solder joints.
I have tried different BNC to RCA adapters as well as native BNC to RCA cables. Somehow the adapters mask a lot of the interference but the native cables looked awful. I have tried different power cables and outlets but no difference. I have also ensured that my TV and the Extron unit are on the same power strip so there shouldn't be a ground loop.
Then I noticed something strange while testing: with the lid of the chassis off, there is no interference. So the lid is acting like some sort of antenna and causing issues with the signal. At this point though I am unsure what to do. I have ensured my power cable is grounded and that there is continuity between the power connector ground and the board as well as the chassis.
Looking for any input on what may be the cause as I am kinda at my wits end. I removed the safety caps on the PSU and tested them and both tested fine so I don't think they are the issue either. The choke is also reading fine so I don't think that is it either. Looking for any ideas on what may be causing this. As I said this occurs even with no input. So this is just BNC converted to RCA going to my TV.

Re: Extron VSC 700 Scaler Interference
I had some annoying rolling interference with component from a PS2 and I used an ethernet component video extender balun which surprisingly worked to eliminate it.
If you're getting it with no input you could try a composite balun on the output. Have you tried the component or svideo output from the VSC?

Re: Extron VSC 700 Scaler Interference
I have been working at this off and on and doing a number of troubleshooting steps.
I have learned that 5V is shorting to Ground and it seems like that is the cause of my problem but I cannot for the life of me figure out what that is. I haven't found anyone else experiencing this online.
I have checked all the caps on the board but I am having no luck... Any suggestions are appreciated.
