Barco/Folsom Imagepro 240p downscaling

Post by ktown »

Hi all,

I just wanted to document that I've got 240p downscaling working with a Barco Folsom Imagepro (1st Gen SDI in my case).
I was looking at scalers with 15khz horizontal frequency capability and came across this.
Some documentation about it on here so thought I'd try finding one and managed to get 2 of them for 70gbp on Ebay.

Initially I found it difficult to programme as I'm a complete novice and you can't adjust horizontal frequency on these units which was frustrating. However, after watching marcoretros video on the Iscan HD, I tried inputting those settings into the Barco (didn't require additional horizontal frequency adjustment) and managed to get a 240p output!

It's a bulky unit but the physical controls are excellent.
S-video and composite out too but only do 480i.
A little bit of an effort to get the settings on but the quality is great and easy to manipulate the image.
Below pictures are not really representative of the quality:

Hi I don’t have any formal way of testing it (like I said, I’m a complete novice perhaps you can suggest a basic method?) but it seems pretty snappy. Also because you can set the vertical frequency I’m guessing there’s no variable lag atleast?

Are there any other Barco Folsom Imagepro downscalers that will output in 240p besides the "Barco Folsom Imagepro-SDI" variant downscaler?

I see the specs on the Barco Folsom Imagepro SDI listed here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/21370 ... 119#manual

Hi there are 4 generations of this scaler, the latest being the 4k model. I’m not sure if that downscales to 240p.

The 1st gen has 3 models - the standard image pro, image pro hd and sdi. I think the image pro hd is the best as it has a dvi input so doesn’t need an external dac. These with the latest firmware update should all downscale. No audio pass through unfortunately.

Image pro II - this should also do it. It seems like orange808 on here own one so they could try and confirm? There are different models with this gen too some with audio pass through

Image pro 3G - it seems to do 480i so possibly could do it but doesn’t formally state anywhere it does 15khz output.

For ktown,

Could list the 240p settings on the "Barco Folsom Imagepro SDI" that you used to get the HD signal downconverted to 240p?

Apologies should’ve done this in the first post:

You need to update to the latest firmware through a serial connection to get the V total down to 267 otherwise the lowest it goes is 288.

Also it’s a bit finicky but you have to create a custom format first and then fine tune settings through output and then timings as the v total and v size can’t be fully dropped so low initially.

H-Position 140
H-Size 720
H-Front 10
H-Sync 82
H-Total 870
V-Postion 9
V-Size 240
V-Front 9
V-Sync 4
V-Total 267
V-Rate 59.99
