Thank you very much for the replies!~
Good to know >.<"...
I was confused, because on the website, they say: "all audio including the original and arranged soundtracks have been remastered in stereo HD quality and is localized into English for the first time."
It is here: https://exa.ac/en/games/dodonpachi-true ... exa-label/
So I thought maybe the voice was also localized, but I guess this is not unexpected and can understand why, even if it is a bit of a pity.

Really need my SDOJ fix @_@"... and we haven't won the lottery yet, lol...
I saw a listing for a brand new sealed Xbox 360 version of SDOJ that will be convenient to ship to me, but I do not have and will not buy the Xbox 360.
If I buy this, will it run on Xenia?
Does anyone have experience with running SDOJ on Xenia with the latest versions and does it mostly work?
I think I still have a USB DVD drive somewhere lol, so if lets say I buy this and connect the DVD drive to my system my hope is that it will be easy and convenient to get everything running hehe.
I read somewhere that someone tried this and of course some functions that need internet did not work, but I don't think there is much recent information regarding this.
Just looking for some advice before I spend $$$ buying and shipping this because if it's a stupid idea then I will save the money!~

Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
I have no idea about X360 emulation, but in any case, don't forget to get the patch for it.
That said, I think for most emulators it's probably better to dump the disc and run an image of it than to run the disc itself in the emulator using your disc drive. It's been a long time since I've messed with software emulation of game systems that use optical discs and maybe it's different now, but my abominably terrible memory seems to recall that that's how it used to be 10~15 years ago.

If you have a pc capabele of running xenia why not just get a mame build that runs sdoj and play it on that?

Wide mode and all the other horseshit, perhaps.
Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
Among other things, 360 expanded the playable ships by a massive 33.33333%. That's a lot!
Well, actually it just means Type-D is here for people that want it. It's also kind of nice to not have the completely terrible audio quality of the PCB, especially with a soundtrack this good.

Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
Why wouldn't you buy a 360, if you took the time to register an account on here? The machine was a STG powerhouse, and plenty of the games were even region free. Hooks up to a CRT no problem too. I'm guessing (without checking) the console can be picked up on eBay a lot cheaper than some of the Cave games for it nowadays!
I guess the days are long gone, where a hardcore JP release from Seibu ended up as an exclusive on an American device, but 15 or so years ago, that was the reality.

Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
Hardware reliability issues particularly with used consoles, perhaps?
Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
Oki dokies!! Thank you so much for confirming!~
Well, for SDOJ I know there is a ROM, but I also know they modified it. And I also know, that modification has Garfield.
Sorry, but I really, really, hate that stupid orange cat, so no :p
Anyway, I know it is old game, but I also thought I will try and keep it legitimate for now!~
O_O?! I think a bit silly to suggest making a digital forum account is same as having another piece of hardware ~_~"...
...but to answer: hubby and I don't have a lot of space; small apartment living problems, and, because of work, we prefer to be more "mobile" and have everything easy to move.
I play all my STG on my laptop, so it is all I need (my hope, anyway).
But, I am also very comfortable with my arrangement, because it has everything I need, in one easy to move package.
If I get 360, not only is it the console, if I remember even the power needs a very big brick? And I will also need a TV, or at least, a monitor to use it.
Anyway, I 100% know the appeal of 360. But I also would not be surprised if many other users here also do not own it.
Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
I think that a 54% reported failure rate might be a good reason to not buy that thing. That's the reported failure rate, too, which means that in reality it's actually higher.

Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
Non-modified ROM is out there. I have it and have run it on MAME a few times. Don't remember where I got it, and of course the mods would kill me if I said where I got it anyway, but I do have it.

Haha, yes, I had a friend with 360 who changed it 3 times I think.AGermanArtist wrote: ↑Sat Aug 30, 2025 10:48 am Hardware reliability issues particularly with used consoles, perhaps?
What is it called? Red Ring error?
I think those were earlier models, but I remember even after years he still had some problems with it.
Anyway, if I wanted to buy another hardware for STG... I would just buy Switch. Smaller, more portable, should have less hardware problems.
Switch also has SDOJ and few other STG's I would play on top of it.
But really, even that is not a top choice for me, because I really like my laptop a lot and am very comfortable with how I play my games on it @_@"... so this will always be priority.
Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
- There is a proper dump without garfield or whatever
- keeping it legal is commendable, but the game is out of print and cave or whoever will not get a cent, the outrageous price you're paying is going in some a**hole's pocket
- xbox360 is super reliable if you just get the slim model, the failure rate probably includes the first (white) models which were prone to RROD.
- xbox360 is super easy to patch and run any game on with new rgh3. There is even a softmod that doesn't require you to patch, mod, unscrew anything but just use a USB drive, the downside is it doesn't always work and you might spend an hour waiting/retrying before it hooks every time you reboot the console and want to use the softmod.

Yes, I know, some people not a big fan of him, but easiest video for me to find example (3:30 onward).
I understand there are three ROM of SDOJ around:
1. First release, modified.
2. Someone not happy with #1, took it, and try to change it back to normal.
3. Finally, unmodified version was released later.
But I had never seen #2 & #3 anyway. But I admit, never took the super most amount of effort to look.

All of this. I wouldn't bother buggering about with the soft mod though, just get a cheap 360 Slim and have it RGH3 modded by someone who knows what they're doing. That said, I have an RGH3-ed 360 and I still just use my PC to emulate 360 games for convenience because I can use my nice Hori XB1 controller instead of the rather tired 360 controllers I've got.spmbx wrote: ↑Sat Aug 30, 2025 11:48 am - There is a proper dump without garfield or whatever

Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
For Faith,
I just use an USA region stock "plain-vanilla" unmodded Microsoft Xbox 360 Slim console (with a matte black color scheme) with an Japanese Xbox 360 port of DoDonpachi Sai-Dai-Ou-Jou disc (it's region-free). The Xbox 360 Slim doubles as a cool and handy DVD player if you have some anime or movie DVDs that you'd like to watch on it.
As for game controller compatibility, I use a Brook "Wingman XB2" controller adapter to use both PS3 & PS4 based gamepads and arcade sticks with it: https://www.amazon.com/Brook-Wingman-XB ... 229&sr=8-1
As it is with the Xbox 360 Slim, it does have support for old-school analog CRT-based TVs via RCA Composite Video, S-Video, Component Video and Euro RGB Scart cables. It has support for both analog CRT-based SVGA and VGA monitor via DB9 interface with the right cable setup (displaying in 640 x 480 resolution as the fantastic "sweet spot," visually): https://www.ebay.com/itm/224532263355?_ ... GfZg&pfm=1
The Monster Game Xbox 360 VGA cable is awesome: https://www.ebay.com/itm/266600045548?_ ... sp9m&pfm=1
The Xbox 360 Euro RGB Scart cable is quite cool as well: https://www.ebay.com/itm/182532365214?_ ... sp9m&pfm=1
And of course lastly, on the backside of the Xbox 360 Slim console itself, there's the ever so handy HDMI port for hooking it up to an 1080p HDTV setup with ease with a single HDMI cable (with both video and audio being ported through the single HDMI cable itself).
You can pick up a small 24" sized Pioneer Xumo TV that has 4 HDMI inputs with the ability to change the overall screen aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3 if so desired via using the TV remote itself + "old-school" RCA Composite Video input along both Left and Right RCA phono inputs making it quite versatile with those old-school retro gaming consoles like with the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine, etc.: https://www.bestbuy.com/product/pioneer ... J2FPJKS94P along with a small rotating TV/PC monitor stand via 100mm Vesa mount interface here: https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Swivel ... =8-10&th=1
With this particular TV rotating stand, you can play the Xbox 360 DDP-SDOJ port in tate as originally intended as the TV stand rotates in both clockwise and counter-clockwise directions if it needed be -- how cool is that? The above listed HDMI TV + rotating stand doesn't take up that much space, space-wise along with the Xbox 360 Slim standing in a vertical position next to it anyways as I personally have that type of dedicated setup myself and it gets the job done right the first time. No fuss & no mess indeed.

Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
The early 360 models sounded pretty bad, but my understanding is they corrected the internals down the line, and I've never personally had a problem. Great machine for this genre, equal at least of the Dreamcast, and maybe even the Saturn if you like the more moden, intense type of shooters (such as the game in question). I understand the space considerations, and the power block is big, but hey it's an American console... supersize me
I live in a fairly poky flat, and still manage to run most of the older consoles plus some old style TVs (which really do consume room space!!). My personal view is gaming on a laptop is just cold and sterile, unless you're actually playing say a fighting game competitively over the internet. But each to their own. For really cramped living arrangements, I reckon a JP PSOne makes a superb unit (Dodonpachi, Sexy Parodius, Strikers II, Raiden DX etc.), but again, to get the max out of it, you run into the bulky CRT issue...
Switch looks nice on the surface for Shooters, but if you're not keen on playing on a screen barely bigger than a mobile phone (on games featuring lots of tiny, fast detail no less), then you may be running into the same latency issues that plagued Saidaioujou early on, unfortunately.

Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
For Faith,
I use an external 3rd-party cooler add-on with my Xbox 360 Slim, the Nyko Intercooler STS listed here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/406040661565?_ ... KfZg&pfm=0
It's powered by using one of the backside freely available empty usb ports on the 360 Slim console itself -- how cool is that? It really keeps the internal temps to a respectable level, especially during extended 360 gaming sessions (which is a necessity nowadays). You can even place your hand against the Intercooler STS' exhaust port and feel the consistent flow of warm air being drawn away easily. It works in both vertical and horizontal formats as well.
Some modded 360 Slims come with a 1TB hdd but an official 1st-party Microsoft 360 Slim 250GB or 500GB hdd add-on is, usually, sufficient enough to get the job done.
----------
Plus, out of all the dedicated 360 apps and widgets made for it during it's heyday/prime back in 2012-2014, only two remain working 100% in 2025 -- that'd be the 360 apps of Youtube and Netflix nowadays. It is what it is.
It's cool to "chill with Netflix" on the 360 Slim from "time to time" (even during it's "twilight/golden" years as it ain't no slouch -- far from it, indeed). Of course, the "heavyweight" 360 apps of Crunchyroll and Hulu+ were available to peruse back in the day but have long been discontinued/abandoned since then.
----------
----------
Just for "shit and giggles," using a miniature 3D-printed 100% working LCD screen endowed 3.5" Sony PVM 2030 monitor to play the 360 port of DDP-SDOJ on is so cute and quite a novelity unto itself -- yes, you can hook up a 360 Slim, PS3, PS4, etc. to it: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1894087883 ... d8b3140cb7
I bought one from the first initial batch offered through Etsy and it works like a charm with the 360 console if the output resolution is set to 640 x 480p and displayed in 4:3 mode for best results. Looks awesome when played in tate -- easy as pie! Even watching Netflix with a 360 Slim using this tiny LCD monitor replica is quite something!
