I'm having a ton of fun in DS3! I'm at the Swamps (Crucifixion Woods/Farron Keep).

All boss fights are awesome so far, that's top notch. The current one (Crystal Sage) is very different, but not in a bad way : with all the projectile types and the illusions in phase 2, it reminds me very much of an oldschool 2D bossfight actually!

Environments are gorgeous; I was under the impression that they would be all GRIMDARK and sepia only. But they do all have touches of aditional vibrant colour. Looks very much like DS1 to me.

No complaints with the "linear frame: although I love the interconnected world of DS1, this works for me too. I enjoyed the Nexxus hub of DeS, afer all.

You're in for a treat with this game if you are enjoying yourself at the swamp areas like Farron Keep. Many have stated this is the low point of the game, and generally the areas and especially bosses only get better from there (with the odd exception). Don't miss out on doing the dlc areas too as they are also fantastic.

People complaining about swamp areas amuse me.
Do they want nothing but castles castles and more castles?

I don't want to lose the swamps, but to be honest the castle areas are generally the best in most FromSoft games. Really allows for some intricate level design.

The only part of the swamps I dislike in fromsoft games is slower traversal. Specifically the whole waist-high water making you trundle at a snail's pace. DS1 is based and lets you skip that by using the rusted ring.

Demon's Souls has the best swamp though imo. Extremely atmospheric and oppressive area.

Yes, I personally enjoy the variety. The only crap areas of the souls games in my opinion are the Demon Ruins in DS, specifically the clearly unfinished bit with all the Taurus Demons just standing there, and the atrocious bit before Alonne in DSII's second dlc with the reused assets from Iron Keep and Alonne knight and Salamander spam. All the rest I enjoy at least to some degree.

slower traversal in most swamps can be mitigated by rollspamming your way across.

so - I've been playing ds2 on stream on my youtoob like once a week.
The fat build, no roll challenge on ds2 finally.
Last night i died about 4 times to Old Iron King

Perhaps something that isn't a swamp.

Shrine of Amana without rolling... Do you just love pain or something?

I defend DS2 all the time and yet I wouldn't fault anyone who ragequit at Amana. It's well-designed but it's well-designed specifically to be fucking annoying as shit.

I felt like it was much less bad in the SOTFS version?
But that might be hard to compare due to the long time between me playing both versions. It was definitely a lot more frustrating first time I played.

It's supposed to be better in SOTFS but getting through the area is still a pain for me. :/

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

Amana is infinitely better in SOTFS.

I played Otogi/Otogi 2 on Xemu last night and I think I'm going to have buy these for my Series S. I had both on Xbox when they were new, but didn't get on with them at the time, essentially because they weren't Ninja Gaiden. On reflection, I think I may have been too hasty in my dismissal of both. They're actually really rather good games. Both sit somewhere between Sega's PS2 Shinobi/Nighshade games and Bujingai Sword Master.
If you like running around, killing things with a sword then it's a series well worth investigating.

One of the few reasons for me to ever still fire up my original xbox. Iirc they aren't on the 360 BC list.

Otogi and Kuon are two of the forgotten Fromsoft masterpieces.

I know some people think Kuon is pretty middling but imo the atmosphere is just unmatched. IF you like spooky traditional chinese/japanese ghost stories, Kuon is one of the best. The game is genuinely oppressive. Just don't try to buy a used copy of Kuon. Emulate it.

Booted up Dark Souls II and for some reason I'm playing online with a PS Plus account.

I used to think Sony was handing out random trial perioids but nothing says that I'm on a PS Plus trial. Is this actually just a bug?

Google AI says it's a free online w/end. Possibly inline with the BF6 Beta.

Something similar happened to me when I tried Anthem for €3. I played online for a day without a subscription, but then it asked me to (the day after). Strange, did it last more than a day for you?

What's this weird DS2 revival all about? I see everyone replaying it everywhere.

Yeah that makes sense. Maybe I just missed the adverts because the PS4 menu is not as obtrusive as the PS5 menu with it's adverts all over.

I think redditors were advertising a "Return to Drangleic" campaign earlier this year. For me it's just that it's the Souls game I hadn't played in the longest while, save from Demon's Souls which I'll also pick up again sometime this year or next.

Never realized ChromeHounds was FromSoftware. It's like every other overlooked 3D action game in the 2000's was by them.

Pre-HD era Fromsoft was full of amazing games that nobody played.
