I got an RGB modded Japanese FZ1 from doujindance on eBay. There's noticable horizontal jittering. It's present on the RGB and composite output in 240p and 480i. It's also visible on every game including the boot screen.

Any ideas?
RGB Modded 3do Jitter/Sync Issue
Re: RGB Modded 3do Jitter/Sync Issue
Might be inherent to the 3DO itself, so probably not much you can do. A RetroGEM (and then a DAC if you still need RGB) might solve it, but dunno if you'd want to shell out to have someone install one of those after you just got the RGB-modded 3DO.
Is the jitter still there on other CRTs or upscalers?

Re: RGB Modded 3do Jitter/Sync Issue
I haven't gotten a chance to test the modded console on another crt or with a scaler, but I have tested my unmodified US FZ1 console and it does not exhibit the same issues. I'll update this when I finally test it. FWIW the seller sent me a video of the console working fine with an LCD and said he doesn't have a CRT. I may just be SOL.
Edit: Tried the modded one on a different CRT, same issues. I still need to try it with a scaler. My guess is the sync is unstable from unstable voltage. I'm going to try to remove the spdif mod and see if that helps since it's just one more thing drawing power.
Edit 2: Tried the modded console in 240p mode with a Retro Tink 5x. It still has the same problem with a wiggly picture, it's just less apparent.

Re: RGB Modded 3do Jitter/Sync Issue
Did you buy it from Doujindance off ebay? (I just noticed you did). If so don't use the sync from his mod. Disconnect that and wire the luma signal from the S video port and use that as your sync signal.
His optical jack audio mod is junk, doesn't work. Did he put that in yours also? He doesn't do a full recap either like he claims. No one that I've encountered has had that optical out work and we all had to correct his shit sync signal.
I had to do a massive amount of work on the one I got from him a few years ago.
I fart on DoujinDance

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
Re: RGB Modded 3do Jitter/Sync Issue
His work has an extremely poor reputation, unfortunately. It seems like it hasn't improved.
Re: RGB Modded 3do Jitter/Sync Issue
Ha. Kiddie gloves in this thread for a very long time (nice callout Strider) for one modder and I recall a storm of piss and shit for another, just for being nervous that someone broke in... Might I add that Voultar does good work? And, he makes a habit of going after hack jobs like this?
Yeah. I hijacked the thread. Sue me.
It doesn't make any sense.

Re: RGB Modded 3do Jitter/Sync Issue
I had good luck with doujindance's mod boards for pc engine. I know his old work was pretty maligned but the new stuff he makes seems "with it".
What do you mean by disconnect it? I've tried composite and svideo and it still has the same sync issues. It has the optical mod too.Strider77 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 23, 2025 5:51 am Did you buy it from Doujindance off ebay? (I just noticed you did). If so don't use the sync from his mod.
