Under Defeat! :)

Do you guys remember the part in the French shmupumentary where they interview G.Rev's Maruyama, and he says the essence of a good shooter is "when you blow something up and there's a really satisfying explosion" - well he certainly makes games according to this conviction. :D

EDIT: GG Aleste II's bomb is really amazing as well, especially considering the hardware it runs on. Darius Gaiden and Tatsuji II have pretty crazy bombs as well.

Tie between the Radiant sword (very unique in appearance and you have to risk your life in order to use it) and DOJ's hyper (for sheer power)

Truxton was the most rememberable from the classic era, Under Defeat gets the new era for me.

Damn, there's so many cool ones out there.

Under Defeat
Soukyugurentai
Psyvariar 2
Giga Wing 1 & 2 (these are probably considered desperation attacks, and not actual bombs. Who cares. They still look pretty. 8)).
Darius Gaiden
DoDonpachi
Raiden II
R-Type Delta
RayCrisis

Funny, I always liked the Truxton 2 bomb better since it was still a giant screaming skull, but also a slowly advancing piercing shot!!!

i think the reason why UD's bomb is more appealing is cuz most bombs from other shmups are of the "flash! omgs wtf?! BOOM!" fullscreen attacks, they are quick and sudden, a quick burst of randomness, you can't actually point out what happens , ,.. but in UD, the bomb attack hasa slight build up, and you can actually see a detailed imagery of each tiny destruction bit-by-bit...

I don't like Under Defeat's bomb.
Maybe I need to play it more, but it seems to me like it does very little damage to enemies/ mostly just cancels bullets.
Looks cool

Am I right about that?

Giga Wing firebomb rules. Also Darius gaiden.
I like the Garegga bombs.

I don't know if it counts, but I would like to Honorably mention Ikaruga, if only for the fact that it's Homing Lasers are just so darn pretty.

Raiden DX; the "regular" bomb. Turnn off the music, and KABOOOOOOM!!!! I have never before, or sense, seen or heard a shmup bomb that looks that good and sounds so awesome! When you let one of those rip, you know that you've just bombed the crap out of your enemies! :D

I've always liked the bomb in Flying Shark, as well-the way it circles around and keeps slamming into enemies is fantastic! :D

I'm partial to the nukes in Raiden I & II. You drop it, it goes FFFEEEOOOWWW, and BOOOOMMMM!!! Hugeass explosion! I like how it takes out the scenery as well.

It's not super hard, but not that easy either. So far only 2 people on this board have cleared the first loop.

Loop 2 is living hell though, for sure. Everything is the mirror image of loop 1 and everything you kill fires nasty suicide bullets. :?

there's 2 loops? cool.
i was thinking of gettng it (not in the immediate futire) since i like twin cobra and stuff, but the video kinda scared me.

8th boss that fires 5-6 slow bullets, then dies from 2 bombs that are supposed to be weak (according to people in this thread) gives a strange impression.

Truxton and Raiden 1 and 2, one for the cool skull, the other for the sheer destruction it causes.

Ruby's bomb in Giga Wing, and the bomb in Mushihimesama (just because of Reko shouting "Bomb!"...so cute).

As mentioned before, the Giga Wings got some extremely cool bombs. I also like Reko's, and the F-22's cluster bomb in Strikers 1999.

Funniest - Aine, GB 2
Sweetest - Marion, GB 2

Easy:

Alpha Mission II (Neo-Geo)...Black Hole Bomb rocks....

shoot it...

Its explodes, you hear a whoosh of air, portal opens up and swallows all bombs and ships in the area.

Awesome effect.

Second choice would be some of the bomb choices in R-Type Final.

How exactly do you get/engage said bomb? I'm quite curious and it sounds cool.
