The silent stick based on a LS-56 just came out. You can get a normal clicky micro version as well.

Upgrades include a metal pivot, adjustable height non-rotating shaft, and new style gate with the octo shape from the nobi pro.

I've got one on the way, so I'll try to give some impressions later.

Idk it seems like this is a bit of a stretch to repurpose keyboard switches for a joystick? But I guess if they're nice to play that's all that matters. Looking at the two brands there's a big difference in the size of the stem that's meant to have a keycap attached. I could see where this would alter how hitting diagonals feels between the two since the actuator will grab the corner of the much wider Omron stem in a position where it wouldn't hit the Cherry?

Either way I'd be curious to try one as it's a pretty unique design.
Just wanted to respond to this now that I've tried both the Omron and Cherry MX versions of the Gravity stick. I find the wider, flatter Omron switches cause frequent undesired inputs in fighting games. The issue isn't noticeable in shmups, where a transition from e.g. up to up-right still happens as normal, but in SF Alpha I constantly find myself doing neutral jumps when I'm trying to get in or escape, and I can only assume it's because - despite tapping hard into the corner - I'm hitting up first by a hair. I'm sure this can be rectified with a bit of practice and increased precision on my part, but it doesn't happen at all with the Cherries, or any of the non-silent sticks I use, so I thought it worth pointing out as a heads-up. :)

It's great. Definitely my preferred stick now. One caveat is with its fairly light tension and short engage it's possible to have the stick register opposite inputs when it snaps back to neutral. I love everything else about it and play a light touch so it's not an issue for me. For people who bang hard on the gate and let the stick flick back to neutral I may not recommend it.

As a side note I've come to like playing on silent reed switches, which has brought me to question the conventional wisdom that standard snap action switches are superior outside of their loudness. I can see why some don't want to give up that tactile bump that's in a snap action switch. For shmups at least I enjoy the speed and fluidity that comes with the reed switches.

One word of advice for anyone who makes the transition to a silent seimitsu stick is give it time to break in. I noticed mine were a bit squeaky in certain directions when brand new. After a full break in the squeaks went away and the sense of smoothness started to come through even more.

That's encouraging to hear about the squeaking going away after breaking it the silent switches. That was one of my issues with the LSQ-40, I guess I didn't give it enough time, lol. I've been using the non-silent (SELS-70X-F) myself in both my arcade stick and my Astro cab, I really like them. The shaft spacers are a nice touch to dial in the perfect height and the actuation to deadzone ratio is just about perfect for me.

This is my Qanba Dragon.

It has a Golden Lever in it.

It had a Bullet Lever in it. I liked it.
It had a LS-32 in it. I liked it.
It had a LS-52 in it. I liked it.

Now it has a Golden Lever in it.

It has a 3.5mm with sick bass, even a trouble-light.
Image
Qanba Gravity buttons, black. With Silencers in them. I really like those.
The ball has "Stab and Stomp!!" engraved on it. I wish it was black.

But it never helped me win a game.
It never gave me a PB, or a 1CC.
I play Turf Masters on it.

Oh God it that rust?

I haven't changed the art on any of my sticks before*, but I had a Mayflash F500 sitting around not doing much (I seem to have bought a lot of sticks which only exist as rainy-day tinkering fodder), so I decided to slap one of the loading screen wallpapers from the Darius Cozmic Collection on it, with some tweaks provided by an Etsy modder. They warned me the art, which I'd ripped directly from the PS4 version, is a little low-res, and unfortunately there's no better example available anywhere. Still, I think it turned out okay!

Image

It's now a dedicated Neo Geo stick for MiSTer, though, so there may be a slight thematic mismatch. Oh, and to keep things on-topic: LS-40, of course. :P

*Apart from when I had the Taito Egret II panel art printed on a perspex plexi for a Q4RAF.

Super cool. Very functional too; it's not like you can read all of it during Cozmic itself's loadtimes, but it'd be nice to have during system bootups etc.

Haven't had any Neo Geo hardware in a while, but I have a MiSTer hooked up to a CRT, so I've bought an original AES stick and Daemon adapter so that I can have a somewhat 'period-accurate' controller to use for Neo games (it's been modded with OBSF-24s but uses the original stick). I did this mainly because I still enjoy sticks from before the MadCatz/Hori standardisation of consumer stick parts in the mid-2000s, and I was just curious to see how the AES one would feel these days. It has a surprisingly high-quality feel, almost like an LS-32 that's been shrunk down a bit, and I've no idea as to the specific history of this particular one but it feels almost brand new - sharp and with plenty of resistance left in the leaf switches, etc. It's every bit as playable as the myriad modern sticks I've hooked up to the MiSTer, even with the slightly unusual upward arc of the buttons (since I'm mostly playing shmups that only use A and B, this hasn't really demaded much adjustment). If, like me, you're looking for something like an 'original hardware' experience but absolutely can't justify the expense of collecting Neo stuff, I highly recommend this setup. :P

Yes, I too, bought a Neo-Geo AES arcade stick many moons ago and it's fully stock. The arcade stick used in those AES arcade stick setups is a Seimitsu manufactured "short-throw" based one -- it's quite responsive as it is (despite being in used condition). I, primarily, use it with a supergun from time to time. Quite an impressive high-quality console arcade stick considering it's debut with the AES console back in the day.

The below listed PC Engine based arcade sticks that are world-class and worthy of your PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 gaming hardware collection (both are, indeed, in my PCE/TG-16 collection alrighty):

If you go back to 1993, Hori made a dedicated PC Engine "Fighting Stick PC" with a six-button layout scheme (has a switch to enable six-button mode and two-button mode as well). Auto-fire is "on tap" for all six buttons if it needed be. I got it off of eBay brand new for just $20.00 usd (however, it costed me an extra $35.00 with shipping from Japan via EMS method to the USA). I find my PCE/TG-16 stg scores getting higher & higher with using it. The joystick shell is all-metal based which gives it some serious heft and weight (absolutely no plastic used in construction with the joystick base/shell layout giving it a premium look and feel through and through) -- it wont budge/shift during heated stg sessions. It, originally, came with a MSRP of 7,800 yen when it was made available to the general public. Hori went all-out when creating/manufacturing this masterpiece world-class PCE arcade stick with no expenses spared and has it in spades -- Hori uses an older "OOP" (Out of Production) Seimitsu LS-33 arcade stick with a square gate setup (that is quite HTF nowadays and is considered rare) with both it's "Fighting Stick PC" and "Fighting Stick SFC" (for the Super Famicom console) releases.

----------
The Micomsoft branded arcade stick for PC Engine, the XE-1 HE Pro, is quite an extravagant one with the following attributes:

features an elaborate internal mechanism to change from an eight-way control scheme to a four-way control scheme -- Tengen of Japan's port of PCE/TG-16 Klax arcade puzzler benefits from a four-way control scheme (just like how the original Atari Games' Klax cab sported two four-way digital joysticks on it's control panel setup back in February of 1990 during it's initial arcade debut release)

joystick is micro-switch based from the get-go (NEC's 1st-party TG-16 Turbo Stick is rubber membrane based/activated but still regarded as a solid arcade stick for it's time when it debuted in the USA back in the summer of 1989 -- NEC nor TTI did not release a proper 1st-party arcade stick for the Turbo Duo console whatsoever back in 1992-1994 -- they could've easily released a Turbo Duo themed/rebranded Turbo Stick with a smaller 8-din connector interface but that would've meant spending more $$$ to do so -- it was from a shrewd business decision/standpoint that it'd be more cheaper to release/sell a 1st-party NEC "TG-16 to Duo" controller adapter to use the existing TG-16 lineup of Turbo Pads & Turbo Sticks still available at retail - TTI sold it's 1st-party Turbo Duo multi-tap (assuming that Turbo Duo owners would pick up four more Duo gamepads)

has four controller ports making it a cool handy PCE multi-tap (in addition to being a console-based arcade stick as well making it a true dual purpose PCE 2-in-1 wunderkind "must have" piece of gaming hardware)

"hands free" auto-fire capability + auto-fire applied when button is pushed/held down in addition to fully adjustable auto-fire via slider switches for buttons I and II (akin to NEC's TG-16 Turbo Stick with it's adjustable sliding switches for buttons I and II as well)

semi-rotational capability for both buttons for better ergonomics layout if so desired

built-in LED light status bar to show the rate of auto-fire (if it's activated)

I’m an octogate dude, and a silent button dude.

I even install octogates on my “guest sticks” (Qanba Q1)

My personal faves I use all the time:

Qanba Pearl
Qanba Obsidian
Hori Fighting Edge 3

Use em all with Brook adapters on every console I own:
SATURN
DREAMCAST
PS2
PS3
Wii-U
Switch OLED

Nice one, PC Engine Fan X! You've covered two sticks I've been after for a long time. The XE-1 Pro very rarely shows up for sale in the places I usually look, and it's often just too expensive or has one of the sliders missing at the top. I actually have the SFC version of the Hori stick, which is nice for the limited selection of good shmups / arcade ports on the console, but I'm wondering if I should do a padhack and put it to more rigorous use on the PCE... :)

I've finally just nabbed a Hori RAP EX-SE for 360 (the white-on-black one with all Seimitsu parts), having had the standard EX version for some years. Modding the latter for anything but Sanwa sticks is kind of a pain, and this one's a lot more beautiful, so I'm really pleased with the catch.

I just got a Hori Alpha silent with the Hayabusa optical and i am not a fan. Being more used to Seimitsu sticks, that's the fact it has a very long engage without any tactile bump.
I will replace it, but it is difficult to chose with all new options available : JLX/2-TPME with mods, SELS-70...

Basicaly looking for a possibly more quiet LS-56 (don't need to be 100% silent) with a softer spring.

I went down the same rabbit hole and wanted something similar and silent. Highly recommend OTTO v5 with sanwa tpml silent switches.

I don't know how I missed this thread

I absolutely love the Seimitsu SELS-70
The actuation is perfect with a tight but forgiving feel
Ball top does not spin which at first I didn't like but then fell in love as it allowed me to use more micro movements using my fingers vs my whole hand

My previous love was the OTTO V5 with Panasonic AM5 switches Seimitsu use to use for their old levers

I can't go back to any other levers!

I sold my Razer Panthera and I'm in the market for a wireless stick. That new Playstation Defiant stick looks pretty cool. I don't really care about the buttons, since it's going to be for autofire anyway.

IMHO octo gates are not for shmups
because you are more likely to miss a diagonal input then vertical or horizontal input
And also it completely alters the post activation travel between diagonal input then vertical or horizontal input
At first I was an advocate for octo gates, because it feels nice. But later I started to dislike them.
Just my 2 cents

Since I've tried asking this question everywhere, I'll try here too just in case:

Does anyone sell an out-of-the-box right-handed stick??

(y'now, like coin-op machines used to have before they discovered people die more being forced to use their non-dominate hand, and therefore, spend more money?)

I could never figure out why every home version of Xevious felt awkward to me (even mame) until I stepped up to an actual cabinet (which has an ambidextrous set-up) for the first time in 15 years, and suddenly it was like "Ohhhhhhhhh, that's why!"

It's just starting to weird me out that there's no need to grind out quarters at home, yet no one seems willing to move the stick back to where it was.

Not aware of such sticks, but if on a normal stick the buttons are placed next to each other like the NA SFII layout https://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/layout.html it will be relatively easy to change the controls to the way you want. Only the cord will come out out the front, but there solutions for that as well.
On the other hand.

You could also just turn the mounting plate around for the buttons. And then you still need to have a solution to mount the joystick.

I'd recommend to keep asking, perhaps ask Youtubers with joystick content.
Someone could always custom make one for you I guess

I currently have a generic 8bitdo (or one of those) that I flipped, but it's... not not awkward. Which is why I specified 'out-of-the-box'

I figure I may as well ask every time the subject of sticks is broached, because who knows? Someone may have knowledge of some dark recess of Temu that 99.9% of the populous have never ventured.

But thank you!

I've seriously considered doing something like this guy Curt, who got an old Lenovo mini-tower from the goodwill cpu center for $50, gutted it, then used the aluminum case for a right-handed stick. It was like half the price of an allflight case, with a free plex server included.

However, there are people in this world who are handy, and I don't seem to be one of them. Even doing a quick/dirty flip of that other stick was way more of a production than it should of been
