Modern PC shmups

Post by Tokyo-J »

What are some of the best PC Exclusive Modern Shmups out in the last 15 years?

Previous favorites Crimzon Clover and Rolling Gunner have been ported to consoles.

Blue Revolver, RefRain - prism memories -, and Hellsinker.

Edit: oops, forgot Hellsinker is from 2007. Whatever. It's good, so check it out anyway I guess.

Blue Revolver definitely, that game's top 10 bullet hell for me, seconding Hellsinker as well even if it's not that modern. Star of Providence used to be PC exclusive until a few months ago, but there's also Astronautilus if you want a similar style in hori and for another roguelike The Void Rains Upon Her Heart is a bullet hell boss rush. I don't remember when Mecha Ritz got a switch port but it was PC exclusive for awhile I think. Akashicverse I don't think is on consoles and was neat from what I tried, and I own Devil Blade Reboot but haven't played it yet and I've heard great things about it. ZeroRanger's a PC shmup too.

Define modern? Just by release date, there will be a lot because most doujinsoft release stick to PC only.

E.g. Blue Wish Desire is only a few years old, but looks ancient lol. Super game though, and really hits the arcade vibe for me @_@"...

Danmakai Red Forbidden Fruit is also a "recent" favorite for me!

Can also give my big extra recommendation for RefRain! Super super game. I have over 200+ hours in RefRain, insane fun to score. Excellent graphics. Super excellent music. Just very good vibe!

I have been playing Devil Blade Reboot today. So far it is the best one I have come across.

Oh yeah, I should've mentioned Revolver360. That game doesn't have a huge amount of staying power for me but it's very novel.

Great game however when I start I get 2 players being controlled by 1 controller. Any idea why that may be?

Not sure offhand how old it is or even how available it is at this point, but StellaVanity would probably be my first pick; ring^27 would also be on the list, Neko Navy (did that one ever comes to console?), maybe Cambria Sword too. I'd imagine there's some stuff by the likes of Artesneit and Astro Port that remained PC exclusive, along with heaven knows how much Touhou stuff.

I believe the glorious 32x9 two monitor widescreen mode for Darius Burst AC is PC exclusive.

Not to mention the fact that you're playing the original Darius Burst game as it was featured in the Japanese game centers in the luxury and comfort of your PC gaming rig at home -- how cool is that?

----------
Of course, the real DB AC cab's running on the Taito Type X2 modified arcade hardware with two dedicated 32" HD monitors along with some specialized hardware for the second screen to display it's magic (without the dreaded monitor screen gap issue to contend with in utilizing such a two monitor screen setup in the first place) + the built-in subwoofer in the player's seating bench for maximum audio punch/flare. Or just buy a dedicated 32:9 aspect ratio sized gaming monitor and the screen gap issue goes away.
