I've been rapidly developing this new horizontal shmup with twisting stages and high speed frenetic gameplay. Its got the fundamentals of movement and spread vs focus shot on one button, a hit multiplier scoring system and special temporary weapons you can grab from enemy debris.
Highly inspired by older bullet hells, cave games and my own personal favorites (APB I'm looking at you!)
I really hope you like it. I will be releasing a demo very soon and if all goes well hoping to release this before the end of the year!

Re: Cosmic Destroyer - New frantic shmup
Thanks! Definitely inspiration from a lot of games that impressed me when I was young - I like to work in limited color palettes and with limitations that add creative pressure. I grew up playing CGA magenta and cyan games, so theres definitely a love letter to some of that in here. This is 4 months of work on this project just working really fast shooting for quickly releasing a concise and intense game.
In fact, I think that's what is making this project actually come together- I've made many shmup prototypes and other game jam games over the last 25 years but all remained those kind of "forever hobby projects" with over designed everything. Too big scope that ensures the project would just keep growing and never have a chance to finish. With this game I really wanted to narrow scope and target extremely rapid development. And I think its really making an impact in the quality.

looks fun!

Yup, that's us! I wanted to make a gritty sci-fi blade runner style future shooter, my wife said "no, it must have cats!" hehe!
