What's making me recall the unreleased Rebirth episode anyway is that they seem to be taking a bit too much from Salamander 1, as if they wanted it to be a remake/arrangement of that. Way too soon to say anyway, and I'm sure it'll get better, but that's what we have today. Actual worries should be on how they're approaching the difficulty aspect after that Haunted Castle remake, that's way less promising even if they're mentioning a virtual late 90's arcade release, which clearly it's only a catch phrase.

Since this came up recently, it may be worth it mentioning this here - been playing the X68000 version via Groovymame since I recalled something was not right regarding displayed resolution and, while indeed the game luckily has a 15khz mode, its problem is that it gets severely cropped when compared with the PCB - from 320x224 to 256x224. That's quite a bit of a smaller viewport as the assets are kept intact. I'm not an expert but you clearly just can't replicate the exact same tactics/positioning like this. In principle, the game should be harder, but Konami deliberately made some parts easier to compensate. Stage 3 crystals are easier to destroy, so one of the hardest stages in the game is likely now one of the easiest. More slowdowns in general as well, which also implies less (though not deliberately) difficulty. There's also the issue that you couldn't use a 3 buttons controller with this computer so fire and missiles always share push button. And you can't set extends at 70k/every 150k like the latest arcade revision (which, I believe, it's cannonical ever since).SuperDeadite wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 12:55 pmPlease stop spreading old internet lies from people who don't know what they are talking about.Bassa-Bassa wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 11:06 amExcept for a 15khz mode. So visuals' presentation is substantially changed against the PCB due to that. Ruined for many people, even.SuperDeadite wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 10:21 amFor G2, the X68000 version is the best. It has everything.
(I don't blame you personally, but I am getting tired of fixing false information from "internet experts.")
Gradius II has an extensive amount of options. Here is a shot of the manual for you.
You can switch to 15khz with the F6 key. Also if you want the play the original arcade version of the game you must hold F10 while the game is booting.
Also holding F11 will enter the "secret" arcade version test mode.

Not saying it's a bad version, mind. Konami put a lot of care into it but the system just wasn't enough for the beast (despite being 4 years old by then). But far from being "the best" or "having everything", if you ask me. Even the Deluxe Pack versions are way closer despite their infamous turrets glitch. I put it on par with the PCE port - good stuff with nice extras, but just not close enough.
