Anyone else bothered that Xbox 360 clock/date settings won't go beyond this (2025) year?

I know this isn't a big issue but wondering if anyone cares that your save files won't register properly after this year. I find it difficult oversight from the geniuses at Microsoft to neglect as this simple feature works out fine with other older consoles (SS, PS2, DC, GCN, etc.) that came before it. Would there be any hacks to get around this limitation?

The clock goes beyond 2025 just fine, you just can't manually set it beyond 2025. However, as long as the Xbox Live service is still operating, you don't need to, because it will automatically correct the time for you. Once Microsoft shuts down the servers, and if you're resetting the time on a console, then you'll have issues.

Thank you for that clarification, but it doesn't help those (like me) who use the unit offline and don't plug their power supply on continuously. Mind still boggles why Microsoft chose this unique restriction.

For azmun,
If you use your 360 online, both apps of Netflix and Youtube still work 100% flawlessly as of 5/14/2025. The other 360 apps like Crunchyroll, Hulu Plus, Vimeo, Pizza Hut, etc. don't work whatsoever nowadays.
Plus there's the fact with an Xbox Series X or Series S console, you can still buy 360 game titles as digital d/l's to save via internal SSD memory or via Memory Expansion Card medium and they'll also appear on your 360 console to d/l and save to the 360's internal HDD setup for posterity/safe keeping as well. You also have the option of saving to the "Microsoft Cloud" if so desired (which is quite novel and interesting with a 360 console setup, especially nowadays).
I had bought the Microsoft Indie Game of "Prismatic Solid" many moons ago off of the Microsoft 360 Store and wanted to re-download it. Managed to re-download Prismatic Solid (it's a 47.87mb d/l) as it's still available to download free of charge as the Microsoft 360 game archive servers are still up and running as of 5/14/2025. It's not known how much longer Microsoft will keep it's "360 Xbox Live" servers going on though.
What's cool about the 360 port of Prismatic Solid (circa 2010) is, it's developed by the same guy whom developed the Japanese PSX game of Squaresoft's "iS - internal section" back in 1999. Plus the fact that it can be played in 640 x 480 resolution all the way up to 1920 x 1080 resolution as well.

Clocks, how do they even work?
I had no idea about this issue, but it's hilariously bad. I'm surprised homebrew people didn't see this coming and come up with a solution, at least for modded consoles.

The future is now
Interesting topic and thread.
If Microsoft is smart, they will release a patch and then it will be big news on Kotaku at least for one day. Journalists can have a field day with the title.
Microsoft increase life of burried console to at least 75 more years!!!

Just like any other console. Set date and time and voila. Basically, it works as a log for when you last played (and saved) a game. For what that's even worth.

This is actually reminding me of something. The save logging does more than just time stamping them, if there's a mismatch it can mess up content in some games. I remember when I was playing Instant Brain, after some time of having the console off and the clock resetting the game could not see scenario progress and stuff associated with my previous saves because they were from the future, according to the reset clock
