Post by semload »

Hi guys, I'm asking for your help...

Who is the artist who designed the cover of this game in Saturn version?

Fuck yeah, wondered if it was him. Reminds of his Zelda works and he did a lot of cool stuff for the Saturn. Absolute baller.

I sold my Saturn copy a long time ago, but for sure I remember that he did the interior art for the manual. The cover looks like his no-outline digital coloring style.

This page actually credits him with the Saturn version jacket art. Seems like 1KMS was spot on

Pai's got a serious case of Janet Jackson face there.
Got me imagining a version of Fighters Megamix with Cab Calloway and Cyd Cherisse alongside Honey and the fighting Hornet ngl.

Ain't misremembering a bitch?
I recalled it from a formative issue of GamPro*, but could've sworn that such a sin would've been covered by their customary TOO MUCH FUCKING TEXT ALL OVER THE SHOP.
And yet a quick search for issue 76 tells me that, no, I'm just an unobservant fuck.

*I was gonna correct that before hitting submit, but fuck it, that's one hell of a Freudian slip!

You know you can redeem yourself by sharing with us a good photo scan of that cover art piece, right?

I have a modest collection of his game illustrations and sketches on my site.

The color illustrations were stuff I found on the internet and touched up, the B&W sketches were what I scanned from the Rakugaking art book. I kind of wish I kept the 1200dpi masters for some of them. I guess I have to buy the book again and tear it apart again for posterity and great justice.

I bought a loose page of Nintendo Power with his Zen: Intergalactic Ninja art. That won't be hard to scan. I also have his Virtua Fighter: Ten Stories book, which has the art BIL showed. I think I can at least scan the art that's on the foldout pages.

I didn't know Katsuya Terada did the artwork for the Psikyo released "Sol Divide" arcade jamma pcb -- many shmuppers don't like the gameplay of it but I personally like it as a yoko-based arcade stg experience with it's heavily induced/inspired fanasty/RPG-ish vibe going on + some cool digitally-captured FMV fire/pyrotechnic effects (having bought the JPN region PSX release and the arcade jamma pcb of it as well -- I also bought the American PSX budget release of Sol Divide but noticed that some content was removed whereas with the original JPN PSX version, it's "complete" as it should be).

Indeed PCEFX, Terada gets around! I find similar with Yuji Kaida, who's done a whole raft of STG/ACT classics. (Whip Rush, Soldier Blade, Garegga, Ex-Ranza, MD Strider, Daimakaimura and E-SWAT... surely more I'm forgetting)
