SkullFang - Nintendo Switch - Flip Grip
SkullFang - Nintendo Switch - Flip Grip
SkullFang - Nintendo Switch - Using a flip grip and then setting the game to Vertical results in up/down/left/right doing the opposite of what they should. Any idea what the correct settings are to get this to work nicely in a flip grip? Thanks.
Re: SkullFang - Nintendo Switch - Flip Grip
I’m sure this has nothing to do with the Flipgrip. There must be a control config you’re missing.

Yes, just trying to figure out how to configure it. Nothing obvious is appearing.
If I select the option in SkullFang to go vertical, it swaps the movement as well, but I want the movement input to stay oriented the same. I don't see that option.

Some games have a separate options for Tate/Tate Controls and Tate/Horizontal Controls. Check the control config. It might be in there to to "flip" your directionals. Unfortunately this is an unpopular version of an unpopular game. Hope someone here can help.

I got this...
You need to make two changes:
1. On the Skull Fang title screen, need to go into "Option" and set Screen Mode to "Arcade". This is the standard Saturn title screen, running in an emulator.
Your choices there are Normal, Arcade, and Side:
- Normal is the standard non-TATE display
- Arcade is a vertical orientation with proper vertical propotions, but still non-TATE (i.e., letterboxed with larger bars to the left/right of the playfield)
- Side flips the screen 90 degrees, but does not switch controls. Makes the game play like a left-to-right scrolling horizontal shooter, with controls to match (i.e., up makes your ship go toward the top of the screen, to the ship's left side). Occasional option from home ports of the time.
2. Then you ALSO have to hit the - button to enter the settings for this City Connection release (the emulator settings). Go into "Screen Settings", and change that to "Vertical 2".
Settings there are Arcade, Vertical 1, Vertical 2
- Arcade is the standard non-TATE display
- Vertical 1 rotates the screen 90 degrees counterclockwise (so, upside down for a Flip Grip)
- Vertical 2 rotates the screen 90 degrees clockwise, which works on a Flip Grip

Re: SkullFang - Nintendo Switch - Flip Grip
The above tate step-by-step instructions would apply to both the alternative rotary-based Nintendo Switch 3rd-party devices such as the "Pintendo Flip" and Retro Frog's "RoTATE Stand" setups (besides the usual "Flip Grip" setup) as well. It's nice to have other available tate options other than be solely tethered to just using a Flip Grip as it is. So be it.
