Well For anyone who is interested, I picked up an lmd 232 with meu wx2 and it’s pretty much as I expected. Pretty poor imagewise. Ps1 via scart to bnc didnt look too hot at all as it upscales everything to the panels resolution resulting in a very soft image , but surprisingly motion was decent and it was playable, with very low lag. Much better than those really nasty 1st gen LMds. The DC faired slightly better imagewise, via vga still wasn’t pixel sharp. Haven’t tried the Xbox 360 @ 1280x720, but with the hideous black level, with no option to lower the backlight, I am not holding out much hope lol.

I really have no idea how this was marketed as a pvm L4 replacement. The industry must have fell of their seats powering these up.

Apologies for thread revival..

However after many nights of trial and error, I managed to get MEU-WX2 fully working with any display by taking the daughter board from one of the LMD monitors and internalising

SCL and SDA need to be isolated from the DVI output port on the MEU unit and connected to LMD monitor PCB
and then various voltages on the power input connector of LMD PCB need to be connected to multiple points of the daughter board along with ground and obviously SCL and SDA as i mentioned.

It is not as simple as emulating the edid, there is power on checks to release video output, so this is the only way, the monitor PCB has multiple EEPROMs on a parallel bus, so emulating EDID only solves 1 check.

Hope this helps someone out there as it would of saved me tonnes of time, will post connection points if there is any interest after all this time

Wow, nice work! Untethering what are otherwise pretty nice processing units from those crappy old LCD monitors, and hooking them up to better displays is what I really wanted (and failed) to do those years ago when I was playing around with them.

Would be fun to see pictures of the work involved.

Thankyou! Kiwa was 90% of the way there with his theory of removing the daughter board, in practise there is a few more things needing connected to power up the logic

I almost gave up plenty of times but decided I wouldn't let it beat me

The original LMD screen was totally CRAP, blacks literally looked light grey, almost white, but good colour if you ignore black levels. Main problem being they are production monitors and have thousands of hours on them - being able to use any brand new screen is amazing.

Using the MEU with an IPS panel monitor from modern times or an OLED display is actually breathtaking, there is no noticeable lag I can see (I don't have equipment to measure) and just on initial impressions I'd have to say it rivals OSSC, GBS-C and retrotink - sadly it will never compete with those because they are not as readily available to the public.

Not to mention it has a Sony badge for increased bragging points and looks cool on any desk 😂 Gotten rid of all of my other scales now, prefer this one much more.

I have been wanting to use another monitor with my MEU-WX2. I read your post that you have figured this out. Can you be more specific one what I need to do. I do have LMD monitor. Any help would be much appreciated.

I've still not gotten round to making diagrams for my writeup on the full procedure for it - was starting to think no one else was interested in the mod.

I've also made further discoveries on how to manipulate it's locked output resolution, bypass relays for near instant booting and now onto even creating scanline filters for my personal preferences.

I've sent you a private message, I will guide you through the process if you wish.

Yes you can, can take inputs upto 1080, keep in mind it's digital output though so 480p would be lowest you could go

I am a Chinese gamer. I made a video about SONY LMD LCD monitors. In the Chinese gamer circle, many friends bought this series of monitors because of my video.

The video address is here: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1VZskehEgP

I am very interested in your method of outputting the image of MUE-WX2 to other monitors. I can't believe that you actually let it output scan lines? Can you guide me how to do it? If you can guide me, I can continue to make a tutorial introducing related operations and introduce your research to Chinese gamers.
