Panasonic TC-2010SM not working after re-cap

Post by greenegg »

I replaced some of the capacitors in my panasonic CRT, and now it won't display a picture other than faint static, with a slight red tint. One time I turned it off it seemed to flash blue? TNP4G036 board, and believe MX-3 chassis. I tried reflowing the solder, no luck. What is likely the issue? Pic is capacitors I replaced. https://imgur.com/a/KNYoYca

Things that have been an issue for me after recapping CRTs:

Forgot to plug cables back in, or plugged them in incorrectly.

Lifted pads or severed traces during recap process (check continuity)

Soldered caps in the wrong way around, etc.

Other issues: wrong value caps. Example: you pull a 4.7 ohm and replace it with 4.7k ohm or 47 ohm because the label on the original or the circuit documentation is hard to read.

On at least one repair, all caps were replaced appropriately and a NPN in the circuit had presumably gone out of spec over time and now with new caps, a fusible resistor would blow every time power was applied. Through much troubleshooting, I eventually deduced the issue and replaced the out of spec component, after which no more replacement resistors were needed. Long story short, if all caps check out good, you may need to do some circuit troubleshooting around the new caps.

Thanks for the advice guys. I checked all the caps again, and all seems correct, so I will check the surrounding circuit. I really hope it's not a severed trace.

Severed traces are easy to find and repair. Visual inspection first, and use a multimeter to check continuity from your new caps to the next things in line in the circuit. You may need to expand the inspection beyond that but I often find any new hurdles that present themselves from the maintenance process are directly related to what I've done.
