DoDonPachi/Cave/Toaplan/bee love tied to ancient culture?
About 4 years ago on one of the old forums I recall a comment from someone saying that the name means "Leader bee." I did some research on this term and I came across some info about Diana, goddess of the ancient city of Ephesus. Apparently, back then the bee was viewed as a symbol of true knowledge/embodiment of all life. Diana in her oldest form was supposed to be a "queen bee" who gathered all the people and animals into the city with her power. The bee was a ubiquitous symbol of the city found on Ephesian coins and medals. The bee icon itself was eventually melded with their mother goddess religion into a symbol known as "the king bee" (which was drawn as a lion holding a bee in its mouth) Possible reason for Toaplan and Cave being fascinated with the symbol of the bee in Batsugun and DDP or am I reading too much into this and they just think the bee itself is an interesting animal?
I just found this kind of interesting though after doing some research on the cultural ties Ikaruga's story has to Bhuddism/the city itself and the fact so many film and video game makers are often inspired by old cultures/myths. Have any Cave/ex Toaplan devs ever commented on their penchant for the bee?
