Installation:

1. Use Mame 230 or newer
2. In the Configure Plugin options Menu, enable Layout Helper
3. Put the raidendxj.zip overlay file (linked above) in Mame's "artwork" folder
4. Reload and enjoy!

Once again, I am blown away by the talent of olifante and baf in breathing new life into a venerable classic like this one. Also nice to see the community pitch in as saucykobold's ST thread was instrumental in designing the overlay, and it was playtested by maximo and meriscan.

I tried the gadgets when it came out and it was really nice. Good plugin for a stream layout or replays instead of black borders. The powerup timer alone is really helpful and I would say this gadget alone is very cheating and I'm all for it.

Now let's hope for NO FUN police like ex-Cave employee Sitappa would snitch and report to takedown over "copyright infringement" while they did nothing to improve the game, also same guy who took down the Dimahoo gadgets.

Fear not CPS; even if some lame has-been from Cave offered up a takedown (unlikely this time) I would back up the overlay and still offer it for everyone (like I did when Dimahoo was sniped) and there is no one who can push me around.

Damn it... I read that as M2, not M4.

Don't be sad, if anything this is BETTER than an M2 release, because it won't be arbitrarily locked to a specific platform, the UI design is generally nicer, and it doesn't come with some half-baked forgettable arrange mode! If you still want to post a picture of the title screen with your mouth agape in wonder, there are ways to do that to signal to the rest of the shmup crew how epic your grab is.

I think it was the Calice cup that prompted this, since the scoring turned out to be a lot more esoteric than anyone realized!

This is very impressive, never seen anything quite like it! It opens the doors to many more questions and games.

It looks professional af and highlights the love the community can bring to a game. A boon for players decades to come! I’d give you guys a golden unicorn, but they don’t have that feature here.

This is awesome! Is there any way to make this work with the US version of the game so that rapid fire is able to be used? I cannot figure out how to get the autofire plugin in MAME to work.

It only works for the JP set 1 rom, a lot of the gadget functionality seems to break if you try using it on the US version in MAME. I'd try to enable autofire via general settings- plugins- autofire plugin & then arrow key to turn it on in base MAME. Then it should show up in game under plugin options-autofire- add autofire button.

Also keep in mind that the autofire plugin is for "later" mame versions, like 220 and beyond iirc, in case that makes a difference.

To clarify some questions: I'd suggest using anything after MAME 0.251 or preferably MAME 0.259 (included)
We usually only allow the Japanse romset(s) for these releases, Changing them and-or playing US / World could lead to different bugs because the difficulty was tweaked between them.
I still belive that this layout was half baked in some aspects, It kinda bugs me that some secrets are slightly mistimed in training and some aspects of the radar weren't implemented due time restrictions and complications.
