__________
3 lives, extends at 400K and 800K, difficulty 5. No version differences known. Please note if you used the Rolling mode.

Post scores in this format:

Code: Select all

NAME - SCORE - STAGE - AUTOFIRE - DETAILS
DETAILS is for what model of console and release of cart/disc, or what emulator and version. Remember that for CPS1/2 games, you'll probably want to put the whole program date if there are multiple releases for a region. I'm especially curious about the updated US version.

Good to see the score thread in your capable hands, this game is excellent and deserves more activity. It's a bit sad that you'll have to milk for extended periods of time for a high score (see below), the sheer ingenuity and execution are nonetheless more than enough to make up for it. I milked ever so slightly for I figured I might as well go for the first place while I'm at it ( ), but it only lasts for a handful of minutes in total. I'll add this to my honourable mentions list, Capcom made several astounding shmups, certainly one of the most underappreciated developers (at least as far the classic branch of the genre is concerned).*
Seahawk wrote:Don't waste time taking apart midbosses and bosses piece by piece - destroy the main part as fast as possible.

It's advantageous for both your score and difficulty to blow through everything as fast as possible.
This is unfortunately incorrect. It is true that the stage clear bonus is dependent on the time spent during the boss fight, but this only applies to the very last phase/section. E.g. you could milk every phase of the huge battleship in stage 5 except for the very last stretch against the mech and still reap those 80,000 points. It's quite a shame, really.

The link above leads to the Kyuukyoku Tiger/Twin Cobra score thread instead of the old Ultimate Ecology thread, by the way. :)

*I will confess that I'm disappointed in Wonder 3 - Chariot, though. Cleared it while uploading the Ultimate Ecology video, talk about squandered potential! Outstanding art direction, neat allusion to Dragon Breed's protective tail, some reputable bosses, but no real framework and a terribly random scoring system. I understand that it's just one part of the overall triptych, it's nevertheless disheartening.

Welcome back :D

Also newer versions of MAME have support for Forgotten Worlds style spinners.

Oops, accidentally copied the KT link, fixed. Forgot about the new spinner support, added a note for it. Is it worth splitting over?

There are a few scores without, I wouldn't be opposed to a split.

Thanks for letting me know. Far as I'm aware, there are no regional differences in gameplay, but who knows.

Arcade defaults
BareKnuckleRoo - 965,100 - Stage 6 - Yes - ShmupMAME 4.2

Not sure what's up with my initials on the score entry screen, must have forgotten to enter them. I remember getting to the last phase of S6 boss on this, couldn't quite get into S7 but had a better score than the first time I made it to S7.

In the last few months I have been very busy with real life and very lazy to play games. I need to learn how to finish this game by Saturday to play live at an event. Maybe I can, maybe I can't. It doesn't hurt to try, but I'm happy to play again.

Third_strike - 915,000 - Stage 5 Boss - Yes - ShmupMAME v4.2 (Japan)
Lost all lives in stage boss

Edit:
Up some spots :D
Third_strike - 1,485,500 - Stage 6 - Yes - ShmupMAME v4.2 (Japan)

Edit:
Upping :D
Third_strike - 1,625,900 - Stage 6 - Yes - ShmupMAME v4.2 (Japan)

Edit:
Stage 5 boss iss my murder :x
Third_strike - 1,708,400 - Stage 6 - Yes - ShmupMAME v4.2 (Japan)

Edit:
Still losing lives on boss 5 and not getting to the last boss :(
Third_strike - 1,776,800 - Stage 6 - Yes - ShmupMAME v4.2 (Japan)

Edit:
I lost the 80000 bonus on the boss of the third stage and some errors in the last stage too. At least it was my first clear, a no miss and over 2Mi too :D :D :D
Third_strike - 2,026,800 - ALL - Yes - ShmupMAME v4.2 (Japan)

Edit:
To beat this score I would need perfects RNGs in fish like midbosses at stages 6 and 7. I'm not even going to try. I hate RNGs.
Third_strike - 2,100,700 - ALL - Yes - ShmupMAME v4.2 (Japan)

Edit:
Lost 4 lives is stage 6 and the 80000 bonus too :(
I found a fish like midboss good way in stage 6. But, get 80000 in boss in this is stage is a matter of luck.
Third_strike - 2,167,500 - ALL - Yes - ShmupMAME v4.2 (Japan)

Edit:
Mistakes in mid-boss 5 and 6 and in lucrative place in last stage, but I am happy because I learned some things about fish like mid-bosses last days.
Third_strike - 2,189,700 - ALL - Yes - ShmupMAME v4.2 (Japan)

Edit:
Stage 5 was trash, but I got there :D
Third_strike - 2,300,500- ALL - Yes - ShmupMAME v4.2 (Japan)

This score is very impressive, so congratulations! If you ever get around to recording the run, I'd love to watch it, but seriously there is no rush!

From what I remember of my last run, I made some pretty gross mistakes while milking the tractor, but if I had gotten it right, the difference in the score would have been very small. Playing Ecofighters has been an old dream of mine. This was the first game I played after taking a long break at the beginning of last year. However, I didn't want to continue playing the game, because I had already reached my score goal and mainly because I wanted to train my left hand more. The midboss milking is very luck-based in the last two phases, especially the last one, because you can't predict the direction the midboss will go, which can be fatal.
You get a lot of points by killing the little laser-shooting robots in the last level. I don't remember how well I killed them on my last run.

Once again I want to thank you for uploading! I've been watching your run (and this TAS video) among others for the last week or so as I prepare to start attempting a 1cc of this myself. This too is one of the shmups I enjoyed very early on, being taken in by the bright cartoon graphics and simple gameplay.

Just a few thoughts:
-The TAS video above gets 100,000 points shooting rocks at the tractor/drill midboss. Because the rocks are random, the safespots he uses are not reliable (to my knowledge) and is likely spliced together. Theoretically you could get lucky and copy his milk if you are willing to gamble every time until the right RNG presents itself.
-Using the laser sword like you do is much safer and smarter. Even then there is some danger. However I was talking with Ako and I modified the strategy a little bit. If you move the laser whip it extends the length. This gives you a little more damage and can stop the rocks a little sooner from killing you. But occasionally one does get through :x This video is just me practicing but I get about 70,000 (and I fail to kill the tractor). However since then I have gotten this method up to 82-85k.
-The milks in this game are something else. Almost impossible to remember due to their length. I have to write down how much score I get from them so I know when to finally end the phases before they timeout
-those two fish midbosses look impossible! The first one is harder to me right now because those shield enemies are very annoying to kill.
-The tornado scrap boss in stage 6. Is his debris invincible? Even with autofire on max I cannot seem to destroy the pieces he throws at you (versus the pieces that stay on him).
-Finally, the final boss seems to be impossible to get 80,000 time bonus on. Is he? I have not found a single video that pulls it off. I wonder if it his movement is RNG based and the only way you could quick kill him during his laser attack is if he only moves down during his first phase.

I hope to start putting together some full runs soon; I think I can get close to your score if I try!
