Looking for people who liked The Guardian Legend(NES) and might care about TheGuardianLegend.com

Post by gamebalance »

Hello,
I run TheGuardianLegend.com and need some help.

It's my favorite game. I played it in 90's childhood and later as well. Loved how mysterious the game felt. Exploring the overworld was engaging. Discovering new weapons and their upgrades was super fun. The forgiving SHMUP sections gameplay with health bar was exactly for my taste(also love Tyrian 2000 for that). Completing the very first intro level and switching to walk mode was confusing at first. And then getting into a corridor and seeing that my character transforming into that exact spaceship was mind-blowing back then.
Beat the game many times and left with a wish to play a sequel. Which became true in 2018 with fan made sequel - Shadow of Naju. BTW the author was active member of TheGuardianLegend.com forum.
Why I made the site.
There was TGL Shrine for a while and it got closed. Which was sad. I liked the idea of a place for fans. After a while I just thought that maybe I should just try and make one myself. Also that was a hope that it might help a sequel to be made. And so, in like January 2010(maybe slightly earlier) I registered the domain, bought a hosting and put SMF forum in there. And searched youtube and internet a lot for people who liked the game and invite them to the forum.
At this point people stopped to be active on the forum and all activity moved to The Guardian Legend Discord
. Besides TGL, people discuss there other games. And because there are not much news about TGL, the other games and stuff mostly talked. Also video games music is popular section. So if you like TGL and have nothing to talk about it, you could join the server just as a retro gaming community.

So. Recent years I am not doing good. And more than that, the situation in Russia blocked free connection with the world. Before 2022 people could just send donations to my paypal and now it's blocked as well as other services. I can't pay for the hosting from Russia as well. The yearly hosting for the site now costs 156$, and the domain name is 27$.
What we do now, is that a regular and trusted community member accepts donations to his paypal and then paying for the hosting or domain.

Why I ask for more people to join the TGL community is because last time getting donations for the site did not met much activity and I am afraid if it gets even lower, the next time the site will be lost. More people = more chances the site will stay alive.

If you can't make a donation I still suggest to join if you like the game. The TGL community itself is valuable. Even if the site will be lost the community will stay.

Currently the site is a blog on the main page, where I post time to time. There is fan art gallery with lots of art of the game, music section with TGL music covers, and the forum which is mostly inactive now. Check it out. There is my contact email if you need. The community activity happens on TGL Discord.

Currently the domain name TheGuardianLegend.com expires in a month on Jan 1. So I will ask about donation on TGL Discord very soon, to keep the site alive. It's 27$ to renew the domain name.

I surely love TGL.

I remember years ago stumbling in a videogame review (I think It penned by Jeremy Parish) of Super Mario Bros. 3

It was a very amusing piece stating that SMB3 was pratically a perfect game. But It could have been even Better, if only It had starred a sentient female android capable of transforming into an spaceship. :P

Best of luck keeping the flame alive.
