A PC shmup collection would not be complete without either Tyrian or Tyrian 2000

oh well ... a PC Shmup collection woulndt be complete w/o SOOOOOOOOO many games, that i just wont bother namin them... there's a LOT of shmups for PC (some very good, some bad), that if we compare that list with the list that its present in, say, PS2, PC's outnumbers the PS2's list (well, if we include doujins... i think thats obvious).

Perfect Cherry Blossom

Tyrian 2000
Parsec47 - http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~cs8k-cyu/windows/p47_e.html
Nomltest - http://www.wickedsmallgames.com/games/n/nomltest-fs/
Cho Ren Sha 68k - http://www2.tky.3web.ne.jp/~yosshin/my_works/index.html

The guy who made p47, Kenta Cho, makes a lot of highly entertaining games, be sure to check out all of em :)

Not an arcade port, but i remember enjoying the shareware version of Raptor back in the early 90s. I might try to pick up a full version now that im remembering it.

Seriously, I tried to avoid to say the obvious but if you have a PC and you`re looking for arcade shooters look no further than your nearest MAME. Unless you have issues with that, of course, and I don`t want to ignite another heated discussion whether emulation of arcade games that ran in Japan ten years ago is a evil thing or not; but shmups on the PC mean MAME (or Raine or what arcade emulator you choose). All the classics are there; from Cave to Raizing to Toaplan and Compile and most of the Darius series and so on.

But I have to say, it`s a shame so few arcade shmups get a PC release since you could skip the whole region-crack issue; plus people usually have better monitors than TVs so the graphic quality is ensured, too. But I guess Raiden and Shikigami 2 came to PC because they ran on Type-X which runs on WinXP (correct me if I am wrong). Well, at least there is hope that Shiki3 is getting a PC release, too, so you may be looking forward to this since it looks really promising.

Don't forget Alluro's homebrew, Xeno Fighters EX.

MAME is a no-brainer, of course.

Shikigami No Shiro 3 is announced for the PC in September, before any console release. Just to mention it.

The inital question was "arcade conversions", not doujin or freeware games.
I guess we can pretty much close this after mentioning the Shikigami series and Raiden 3 (and the new upcoming Raiden 4 I would assume).

I have no issue with MAME except in knowing which shooters
are actually available and working ;)

Can you help?

I use the original command line version of MAME 0.99b - one initial mistake I made was that I got a rom file, but it didn`t run because some games require additional drivers. Shooters running on the Neogeo-hardware need the neogeo.zip bios to work, copied into the same folder as the rom. That should help most of the time

Don't forget the too often forgotten : X-Tom 3D

The only problem with this great game is it does run under Win9x, but not with WinXP because of a shitty internal sub-program ; i tried all possible ways (compatibility mode, light a candle, voodoo doll...) without any result.

For those who don't know this game, i have taken some screens :

and last but not least, a little video (no sound since i had to use tricks to capture the game)
