Looking for Steam-exclusive shmups for the Steam Deck

Post by arturo »

Hey everyone,

I just got a Steam Deck and I'm looking to expand my shmups library. I've got most of the popular ones on Switch, so I'm specifically interested in titles that are either exclusive to Steam or offer significant advantages on PC (e.g., additional content or modes).

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

PS. IIRC Zero Ranger was never released on the Switch, right?

Pretty much everything is better on PC than Switch because PC almost universally has lower input lag, aside from odd cases like Shitty Connection's garbage Saturn emulator that was used for Saturn Batsugun and supposedly has higher lag on PC than anything else.

Anyway, RefRain and Blue Revolver.

Cotton Reboot, Triggerheart Exelica, and Game Tengoku don't work on Steam Deck, so don't waste your money on them unless you have a normal computer, in which case you absolutely need Cotton Reboot and should still skip Game Tengoku because it kind of sucks (it's not a bad game, but...) and probably also Exelica because Enhanced is probably coming eventually.

Also never ever use the Steam Deck's framerate limiter because it induces noticeable input lag.

For arturo,

Check out Last Boss 88's Steam port of Shinorubi which plays on the Steam Deck as well and has online leaderboard support from the get-go (the console ports of Shinorubi don't have online leaderboard support whatsoever). Be sure to check out Devil Blade Reboot and Sektori also on Steam. By the way, which Steam Deck model variant did you pick up?

Already mentioned:
Zero Ranger
Blue Revolver

Adding to the list:
Blue Wish Desire
Adventures of Ten and Til
Danmaku Unlimited 2
Neptunia Shooter
Shooting Game Kari
UFO 50 (all sorts of games, some are shooters)
Rhythm Storm (demo only for now)
Dimension Tripper Neptune: Top Nep (space harrier type)
Cygni All Guns Blazing (runs and looks great, personally have opinions on the game itself)

  • Blue revolver
    Devil Blade reboot
    Zeroranger
Mushihimesama (technically not exclusive to steam, but it was removed from the Nintendo eShop)
    Dodonpachi resurrection (same as above)
Hellsinker (haven't played it, but heard good things about it)

First thing I'd do is buy the entire Toaplan Arcade Collection on sale for like $70

A few titles I enjoy on the Steamdeck:
Kaikan
Zakesta Z
Devil Blade
Ganablade
Siter Skain trilogy - Kamui, Alltynex, Reflex
Natsuki Chronicles
Ginga Force
Infinos
Rainchaser -- demo only but is outstanding.
Toaplan Collection - currently on sale with Psikyo bundle for £20

Not on Steam Store but work are:
Cho Ren Sha
Battle Traverse
You can add them to the Steam library to launch.

Wow, there are way more than I thought. I'll go with Blue Revolver and Zero Ranger for now. I already got Devil Blade Reboot and it's awesome, btw.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions guys!
