Sony BVM-A20F1M - Overload and blinking Operate

Post by DarkerWolf »

Hi there,

I tried powering on this Sony BVM-A20F1M. After activating the power switch on the back, the controller turns on normally and the monitor does its startup initialization.

Shortly after that, the operate-light turns solid green and the monitor tries to turn on, you can hear the high-pitched sound from the tube. But then it does a click, the over-load light comes on and the operate light starts slowly flashing. You can then hear the high-pitched startup sound again but this time shorter and after that nothing happens anymore. There is no picture shown during the whole thing and the buttons on the controller don't do anything.

Also I noticed that the lights of the LAN port on the back are also constantly flashing in this state.

If anybody has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated :)

Here's a video of the lights on the front: https://imgur.com/a/FBKa1U7

I have the chance to buy this thing from my employer, if I don't it'll go to recycling, so I'm really hoping that it's savable ;-;

I just tried to turn the brightness down immediately after it turns on, but it seems that the monitor just doesnt get any inputs from the controller. The lights on the buttons also dont light up when pressed. Maybe it doesnt establish a connection that early?

Also, I tried to run it completely without input cards. In that state, the overload light stays off and it just shows the green operating light like it normally would. But there's still no picture and the controller still doesnt do anything, not even the on/off button.

These BVM A series have this habit to put themself in overload when not used for some times. Mine do it and i heard many people having this issue.

I discuss it with savon pat that told me it's the sickness of A series and you need to remove the internal cards and put them again to somehow "reset" the bvm.

Don't let this thing go to recycling there is good chance it's working just fine.
