Love the background work. Really leaning in on the high contrast values of the Genesis palette.

God damn, that looks good Image Like the original with a jolt of Steel Empire's fantastic iron beasts. Even a mineshaft stage, haha.

Speaking of Koutetsu Teikoku, that Cloud stage looks uncannily Koutetsu Yousai: Strahl. With UPL and NMK's connections back in the day, I could almost wonder if there was some personnel overlap. Looks rad, at any rate!

Is this based on the original arcade P47 Freedom Fighter? Or is it a "new" game in the series?

I've never heard of this as an unreleased Mega Drive game from 1990, but it looks awesome!

edit:

Image

P-47 II MD was originally in development for Mega Drive under the title P-47 II Freedom Star, but development was cancelled in 1990.

Trailer looks like an original home sequel, ala R-Type Delta or Gradius Gaiden. None of those stages or bosses are in NMK's arcade game. Player craft looks similar, appropriately, but the Option support fighters are new, IIRC.

Trailer BGM is very familiar, actually that might be Sizzla Okamura's arcade OST, offhand? Been a while. Unmistakable pristine sound. EDIT: Yep, that's the North Africa stage BGM, alright! NMK mixed up its title and intro pic with Ardennes BITD.

I wonder how involved NMK were, and how far along the project was. I know they worked on console stuff, eg Ninja Crusaders: Ryuuga for the Famicom. USAAF Mustang, sort of a Salamander to the P47 duo, made it to MD as Fire Mustang in 1991. I'd always assumed that was their in-house port for Taito. It's nice to hear about this stuff again, haha.

This looks really cool, hopefully it'll go up on Amazon Japan for pre-order.

Amazon listing is up now: https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0DPFGDKG3/

City Connection's website lists the various preorder incentives: https://city-connection.co.jp/p-47_ii_md/#Sect04 Amazon gets an 8cm mini CD, while City Connection's own store gets a pair of buttons.

That trailer looks really good - I'm definitely curious about how this plays.

Lame, Amazon is not letting me pre-order it, claims its sold out every time I attempt to. Which usually means its not allowing it to ship to the US yet.

AmiAmi has it up for ¥7120, almost 20% off the ¥8800 MSRP: https://www.amiami.jp/top/detail/detail ... ME-0031639

Pretty great pre-order bonus there, I have yet to see other stores with a below MSRP price (including Amazon, Ebten, Clarice Shop, Rakuten). I'll take the savings and an acrylic keychain over the other retailer bonuses! AmiAmi does ship internationally (at least I can confirm they ship to the US). They request payment once the item arrives and is ready to ship, so you do have to watch for it and pay once they email you.

With regular Amazon international shipping included, the total cost is $116.00+ if paid in US funds. Is it really the usual shipping rate charged (8,400+ yen + 8,800 yen price)?

according to prior guidance I've received, it usually gets adjusted or you can request to have it adjusted closer to the release date. The last item I bought from there was dodonpachi daioujou in 2023 and shipping was 2,436 yen

no problem - just be weary I haven't had anything shipped from there since last year so maybe that changed? I'll cancel my preorder closer to the release date if I'm not able to get it adjusted

Looks solid for 1990. I definitely would have dug this back in the day. Looking forward to trying it!

I was going to order this from Amazon today, as the Sound Track CD seems like the most interesting bonus to me personally. However it's already be sold out (still can be ordered there without the bonus CD though).
Fuck that was fast. Oh well, guess I'll go with AmiAmi for the cheaper price. The game has already confirmed to have a full sound test, so I can just record the tunes myself anyway.

Hopefully the cartridge isn't of the same bad Chinese bootleg level of quality that Columbus Circle craps out. Please don't have Columbus Circle make the carts...

Both AmiAmi and Amazon Japan have English interface options, though they'll both ship from Japan.

(For Amazon, pick the language from the dropdown to the right of the search bar.)

To be honest I would be more excited to play this than the newly-announced SaiDaiOuJou switch port, lol.

Amazon has the soundtrack version available again. That said, this has a sound test, so you can just run an aux cable cable from your MD to your computer and essentially make the soundtrack yourself, although you may have some audio noise in there.

It's also an 8cm mini CD, so temper your expectations. It might not be a complete soundtrack.

Yeah the dev posted on Twitter that they never expected to sell so many copies. (Probably didn't even think about all the foreign sales...lol.) And has increased the number of CDs. I really have no interest in knick-knacks, so went for the CD bonus.

In truth game sound tracks typically make me sad as the loops are always too short. Sooner or later a VGM rip will come out and I'll record my own high quality ost via MSX TurboR anyway. :)

I will admit the B2 poster that comes with the LE is rather badass, but I have no space for it, and the LE is way more then I'd ever spend on it.

One other thing to consider is that the CD is an Amazon bonus, and Amazon also has the non-Amazon bonus version available, and Amazon has a tendency of heavily discounting their non-bonus versions before release while leaving the version with the bonus at its full price, so it's very possible that the version without the CD will end up being significantly cheaper even during the preorder period. We'll see.
