DC version was a waste of time.... AWFUL initial load. I could deal with that because it's a one and done.

But the framerate is not 60 *fart noise*.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I got my Dreamcast copy of this today and it's garbage. After about 90 seconds of loading, you get a ~30FPS game with artwork that looks glitchy/corrupted as early as the title screen, just like on 3DS.

Fuck PixelHeart/JoshProd/whatever the hell this company's name is for mangling this cool and good game on two separate platforms. This game deserves better than this. Fortunately, the PC version exists. Don't buy the gimmick versions on Dreamcast or 3DS, as they are a waste of money.

At least I got the Dreamcast version with the soundtrack, so the only positive part of all of this is that I have the OST. The funniest thing about it is that they put the OST in the front of the jewel case and the game disc in the back, as if they knew which one of the discs was good and which was shit. It's as if I bought the soundtrack and they threw in a bad version of the game as a bonus.

That sucks to hear, and I'm sorry you had to pay for it. But if it's any consolation, I find that comment hilarious!

Thanks for the heads up.

I was hoping that the Dreamcast port of Andro Dunos 2 would be a silky-smooth 60fps stg experience (that could finally be played in 240p on a low-res arcade monitor setup with the right down-conversion equipment) and not this crappy current 30fps DC port affair. I'm sure Pixel Heart/Josh Prod know that the DC can play some slick 60fps stg titles these days. Oh well.

I still can't believe how long it took to load the game. It was well over a minute. My Dreamcast's laser is super loud when it seeks, and in this case it was mostly silent and the loading screen doesn't have a spinning thing or a progress meter or anything, so for about the first half of the loading period I thought that my Dreamcast was broken before it actually started making noise.

Thats a shame about the 3DS port because thats like the only traditional STG on the system that isnt an NES port.

For those interested in playing the original game, it's getting a PC/Steam release as part of a VISCO Collection.

The store page is now up:

For those interested, a website posted an English interview with RYO of Picorinne Soft, where he speaks a bit about Andro Dunos 2 (and their other games):

You can currently get the Steam version in a Fanatical bundle ("Build your own Premiere Bundle") for as low as $2.00 USD/$2.54 CAD.

So ... I picked this up cheap on uk estore for switch. I see they have added scanlines via a crt option but have also forced the barrel effect as well. I'm gathering this is forced and no option just to have scanlines?

If forced then wtf were they thinking.

I got the game on a big discount on Steam and I'm completely enamoured by it. So much that I ordered the 3ds physical release.

But I'm a bit disappointed by the shoddy programming. The game has plenty of screen tearing, which is weird because my monitor is 60hz, and why wouldn't such a low demanding game run at stable 60fps? Activating V-Sync is a big no no for input lag, and the best compromise was using Nvidia Fast Sync, but that gives me some uneven frame pacing every once in a while. Does anyone got a best solution for this?

It's also disappointing that I can't integer scale on full screen. But the game is so damn good that I made peace with playing on a window.

IMMEDIATELY cancel that order. The 3DS version is a completely worthless version and a waste of money. It's shit, and there is literally nothing good about it. It doesn't even manage to run at 30 FPS properly.

Also,

This game wasn't really programmed. If you are complaining about the PC version's performance, wait until you see that 3DS version.

It does that automatically if your screen's vertical resolution is a multiple of 240.

I saw some reviews on 3DS, and I'm already expecting the fps issues, but 30 fps is the standard for the system, although it's disappointing that there are drops and the screen . But just having stereoscopic 3D and an Allister Brimble soundtrack will probably be worth the 19,90€ for me, but i will think about cancelling it tonight:)

As for the vertical resolution, that means changing the monitor resolution to 960p, and that would make everything blurry. It should be possible to have black borders around it. I have to make do with playing it windowed.

Well, i guess that I should have made better due diligence, but the package has been sent already. I'm not even a guy that usually buys physical stuff, I rather have everything on Steam, but I've should have known why they still had this game in stock.

It's a 2D game. It should be running at 60 FPS, not 25. You'll see once you get it. It's bad. Pretty sure that the 3DS version doesn't even have the proper aspect ratio and there is no option to fix it. At least you'll probably be able to sell it for some decent cash in 50 years because they probably didn't make too many copies.

Or just get a monitor with a native vertical resolution that's a multiple of 240.

Got the game on the mail today and....it's not as bad as expected. The framerate has been pretty solid. Sure, it's 30fps, but I grew up playing ZX Spectrum and Amiga shmups. I have high tolerance for that. What is really unforgivable is the shoddy graphical presentation, with stretched graphics, and all the letters looking wrong. They could have put some of the UI on the lower screen instead of that pixelated image.

But, I still think the game is a top shmup, and it's still fun to play it on the 3DS.
