Toaplan 40th anniversary

Post by Steven »

There's a 40th anniversary website up now. Not really sure what they're planning with this, but it's here, along with proof that Yagawa really loves Dogyuun!! enough to want to make a sequel, which I did not expect. There is an English version of the site, but in true Toaplan fashion, it is translated rather poorly...

I guess there's a stream at Mikado in about 2 hours. I am not home and won't be able to translate it live, but I will be able to go to Mikado in time to watch the last bit of the presentation there. I'll go check out the rest later and translate anything that's cool.

I'm hoping there's more to it than just elaborate spruiking for the android/iphone versions.
They don't look completely horrible, but I'm ancient and I don't want to play shmups on my bloody [touchscreen] phone - just give me news about the M2 ports already :c

Lol I made it there just in time to see them pack up. Talked to Uemura-san for a few moments and then noticed that they currently have every Toaplan shooter out on the floor, so I took the time to play Tiger-Heli on PCB for the first time, and also Same! Same! Same! 1P. Not sure what was on the stream, but I guess he played some music or something, so that's cool and definitely worth watching.

I have to leave to go to work in 9 hours, so for now I'm going to eat some food, watch Star Trek (Enterprise, for the first time. It's... surprisingly actually nowhere near as terrible as I thought it would be and mostly pretty decent so far! The decon chamber is stupid, though), and then go to sleep. I'll check out the stream in about 20~22 hours and then see if there is anything I need to translate, but somehow I doubt it.

So the 40th anniversary stream was the announcement of mobile versions of Toaplan's games and a promo for Snow Bros Wonderland and not much else, right?

It wasn't even an announcement for the phone releases because they announced that last year. It's more like a reminder. "Hey we said we were going to release this soon a year ago but never released it and you probably forgot about it, so it's back now."

Otherwise, yeah, there was nothing really worth mentioning other than the thing next year that I already made a thread about a few days ago.

I guess someone is also going to be streaming stuff on the Tatsujin Youtube channel, but I don't know who is going to do it.

There was also Uemura-san's mini live that seemed to not go as well as planned... his timing is off because he couldn't hear properly until he put his headphones on.

I'm hoping that there will be more stuff in the future for this, because if not, there really wasn't a need to make this 40th anniversary website and give it a news feed column thingy.

Nice to see programmer Toyama present in the comment section, hyping up Zero Wing's music, among other things.

It's strange that they didn't take the opportunity to release something like this everywhere, a bit like the SNK 40th Anniversary.
In any case, it seems like a very rosy moment for the genre, with Tatsujin/Toaplan and MOSS being very active lately.

I'm going to mention this here because it doesn't really go in the M2 Toaplan thread: Snow Bros 2 remake demo is up on PC. They left the horrifying overseas version character select screen portraits in as an option that can be toggled!

I played it for a bit. It's... Snow Bros 2, I guess. At least they added a (very slow) autofire button this time so you don't get carpal tunnel syndrome from playing it.

I usually have to replaying Twin Cobra and Truxton as a remembered original Toaplan game company, With the big dreams and memories to see bright side of Toaplan turned 40th years after.

It warms my heart, also makes me miss my old neighborhood near Mikado. You don't really appreciate what you got until it's gone... :(
