Shmup for Switch
Hello, I’m kinda new to playing Shmups and I wanted to know what were your favorite shmups/bullet hells on the platform, anything welcome, I heard about angel at dusk and loved the graphic design but I don’t know if I fits a beginner’s level, you guys tell me. Thank you for your answers !!!
Re: Shmup for Switch
My favorite beginner friendly shmup on Switch is probably Barrage Fantasia. Great pacing, flexible skill ceiling and nice chunky sprites!
The Terarin games are also pretty beginner friendly as well - would highly recommend checking out Moon Dancer, Raging Blasters and Star Gagnant.
Lastly, Graze Counter and Drainus are top tier imo - but maybe a little harder (certainly not anyway near Cave game difficulty)

Sisters Royale is the most accessible of the games that follow the Shikigami no Shiro formula. The characters are diverse enough to cater for different playing styles. Getting the 1CC is fairly easy, but once you go into the rabbit hole of score play, the game offers endless replayability while you're trying to optimize your routes in order to squeeze out a few points more. Highly recommended.

Re: Shmup for Switch
There are a ton of good shmups on Switch, and most of them perform well. Check out the various Cave ports and other classics like Radiant Silvergun and the Cotton series.
For beginners, Crimzon Clover Novice mode or Gunvein on Mild or Handheld mode would be a good place to start.

Re: Shmup for Switch
Part of why I think shmups are fun is that they throw you into the action right away. They are most fun when they challenge your skill level and induce some adrenaline (i.e., not too easy, not too hard).
Each to their own, but I'm not sure finding easy modes is the best introduction to the genre. For me it worked better playing challenging games but allowing myself 3 credits/continues or so to get further into them. Then once I got good enough, I constrained it to 1 credit.
So if you like bullet hells, I'd suggest games like Rolling Gunner, ESPrade, Mushihimesama, Dodonpachi Resurrection, Crimzon Clover. Look at screenshots or some short clips, get the ones that look appealing to you, try them out on default mode, have a bit of patience because all of these games are memo-heavy (even veteran players get approx. stage 2 game overs on a lot of shmups in the beginning, but they will gradually improve when they learn enemy placement, enemy attack patterns, etc), but move up or down in difficulty setting if you find you're not progressing/developing at all.

The Angel at Dusk demo on the USA region Switch eShop allows you to try the first two stages (out of a grand total of five overall).
Cave Co. Ltd's own lineup of stgs (i.e. -- Donpachi, DoDonpachi, Dodonpachi Dai Ou Jou, Dodonpachi Dai Fukkatsu (aka Dodonpachi Resurrection on the Switch courtesy of publisher Live Wire) and Dodonpachi Sai Dai Ou Jou) all have five stages each as well.
Out of all the listed Donpachi series stg titles, only Dodonpachi Resurrection and Dodonpachi Dai Ou Jou (as a Japanese Switch game import) are playable on the Switch gaming platform. The Switch console itself is region-free, so running a Japanese region Dodonpachi DOJ Switch game card on a USA or European region Switch is 100% compatible indeed -- no worries.
The "Hori RAP Pro V" arcade stick is recommended for the Switch based stg titles -- it's listed on amazon.

Re: Shmup for Switch
Well, you certainly won’t be short on quality choices for Switch.
My go to beginner shmup is DariusBurst.
It’s arcade spec, one of the easiest arcade 1CC’s ever, (ADH route) but still great fun. It also has 10 different ending routes of increasing difficulty, so it’s a game you can really grow with. It also looks and sounds great. Many ships come with their own gameplay hooks. The burst laser system is brilliant.
It’s a perfect shmup.

Thunder Force AC is brainlessly easy and one of the most effortless arcade clears ever aside from Mega Play Sonic 1 and weird stuff like Karous on easy, so that.
Also, importantly, Hishouzame.
