Raiden Fighters Remix Collection

Post by jehu »

New Raiden Fighters collection on the way - announced at TGS from MOSS.

Trailer available here (thanks Lemnear):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADmuqVap3IU

Will edit when more details emerge. Word on the street is that it's emulation and not a source port. No platforms or date announced just yet. Exciting news!

Sweet, with the 360 version region locked it'll be good to play these. I think I have the GoG release but then my PC died, and I gather the PC version was dreadful anyway.

Cool, I've never played these, but they've always looked like the most visually appealing Raiden games.

Success' work on the 360 collection was truly amazing. A technical masterpiece with more options than anyone would expect from any publisher today (probably even incl. M2).

I'd be REALLY surprised if a new release could achieve even something close to that. Unfortunately I think that this will indeed be based on whatever's floating around in terms of emulation and will certainly end up closer to the Raiden Fighters Legacy collection on Steam than to Success' 360 masterpiece (and that's a C- emu package versus an A+++ port).

Nice. Been waiting for this one. Was disappointed when I realized Raiden Fighters on Steam was just a port of the mobile games :(

I recall buying a brand new sealed copy of the USA region 360 port of Raiden Fighter Aces from my local Gamestop back in the day -- it was a mere $19.99 usd (a steal at that price, indeed). Later on, found a used but complete copy (with original game disc, game case & manual) for $9.99 usd from the same GS store location. Is certainly the easiest way to play all three stgs of Seibu Kaihatsu's Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters 2: Operation Hell Dive and lastly, Raiden Fighters Jet (short of owning/playing them on the expensive SPI arcade motherboard + all three SPI carts of the same name nowadays).

Seibu Kaihatsu's Viper Phase 1 still hasn't gotten a proper home gaming console port -- what's the hold up with that particular arcade stg title IP anyways?

The single layer pcb of Raiden Fighters Jet 2000 has been released/sold with the crappy Oki sound chip onboard and on others, with the better and much preferred Yamaha sound chip installed from the get-go.

Let it be noted that I'm officially begging for Viper Phase 1 to be included this time. 8)

MOSS could break tradition & be a good sport by including the classic VP1 to properly round off this Raiden Fighters Remix release. The real question to ask is: Will they do it?

Having no home release for Viper phase 1 is baffling, and a disgrace. I say this as someone who owns the PCB. That game is so well made that it deserves to be played ny everyone.

I looked before taking a snooze, and saw that no one had posted this, but was like "I'm sleepy, someone else will do it 3 minutes from now. Zzzzzz..."

(I don't know if was actually 3 minutes, but I'm sure it was close)

One thing I didn't like about Aces was that I couldn't view the attract animations for the games. Was this hidden away some menu? Starting each game takes you directly to the ship select screen and on a game over you get kicked back to the system menu.

The attract animations are shown automaticly in the title screen (before you press start).
If You dont´t press start for 30 seconds or so, it starts to show all of the attract anims in a random order...

Thanks for digging, Lem.
I wasn't gonna visit Bird App and thought I was going mad not being able to see it on MOSS' YT.
Nope, turns out they just uploaded a brand new trailer to hype their game - and set it to unlisted.
Spoiler
Maybe they wanted it to be a TGS exclusive for a couple of days or something?
Is the Viper Phase 1 begging just wishful thinking, or is there any chance in heck of it actually making the package?

It's random wishful thinking out of left field that doesn't make any sense, count yourself lucky if this isn't just the 360 release running in an emulator.

Yep it's just wishful thinking. Viper Phase 1 runs on the same arcade motherboard as the Raiden Fighters series, and the ship is playable in Raiden Fighters.

But yeah it'll never happen, that game is forever doomed to never see a home port.

Aces was the first STG thing I bought on my own waaay back in 2008. I was just looking for a cheap game because I had just gotten a 360 the previous year. Beat up, multi traded in copy at a bottom shelf corner of my mall's GameStop. Clerk was trying to warn me it's not what the cover looks like assuming I was thinking it'd be Ace Combat or something. When I got it home, I thought it was awesome. Played it constantly. Even at the time the amount of custom options was impressive to me. Still have it.

Really hope Remix is close to as good. These games need a good modern port.

Hoping it gets a steam release tbh, otherwise I’ll probably just stick to aces which I currently have a setup for next to my PC

Aces was mostly Gulti's work, actually, people who worked on the original games at Seibu. Some of them worked for Moss as well, so it's plausible this new collection uses Aces as the base, though not as an emulation of it as pointed, but more like a port. Hardly will it keep its qualities anyway, there we can agree. Emulating Seibu's SPI is not easy on the other hand, that's well known at this point.

Hi all been so long with health probs. I can't find my original login as Dazzyman so apols.

I was looking into getting into cab or jamma crikey around 20yrs ago as wanted the raiden fighters series and Pro Gear.

I then saw they came out on JPN 360 and Raiden IV so imported a machine in UK with arcade stick. I ended up buying nearly every shmup over time the whole cave and so on.

Raiden fighters aces series will always be the best shmup collection for me. not too hard but bloody addictive. One is my fave game ever tied with Batsugun and I love the scoring system when normally I play survival

Too hear this announced when I was forced to sell everything in lockdown id like having a new heart.Cant wait as always been my fave genre since galaxian in 70s with my dad me on a box as a 4yr old pressing fire while my dad moved.

We Def need more arcade ports but I've never been so happy with arcade stuff now from switch to PSN and odd Xbox.

The collection has so much in it. I've been tempted to save and rebuy with muchi muchi pork but the prices just too much tho when I sold them to VGI they were crazy then.

If you never played them your in for a gorgeous treat!

Fingers crossed I'm well enough to switch on launch astro city mini I bought years ago when coming up to 50th with the pad now I'm gaming again. :)

Def missed u all

A 1:1 with Gulti's exemplary 360 Aces would be nice. I'll happily pick this up if Moss do well on a platform I've access to. They did exemplary work with the PS4 version of Raiden III Mikado remix - flawless, as far as I can tell, letting me retire my old PS2 and Windows discs - but that project's quality seemed unfortunately inconsistent on other platforms.

Some consistency outside of M2 and Hamster would be nice, this gen.

That all sounds rough, hopefully this gives you that Bruce Lee motivation to overcome it all.
